Sleep. Between the rain and this virus that shall not be named that has taken my ability to taste 🤬 We are sleeping. The pigs. Me. This has been a hard reset rest week. Well, as much as you can with animals.

We are ready to see some sunshine, dry ground, and be back in the game as usual.

So guess what?!? It’s raining. A lot. We are going out to feed and make sure everyone is dry. Babies are good. Boars got a housing upgrade.

Now we just wait till it decides to stop.

In the meantime, please excuse our language during feeding time 🤣

I owe Bellamy a public apology. 😂

Bellamy and I have had… a complicated relationship. You wouldn't know that, because I've mostly kept my opinions about her to myself.

Before she ever came to Carlisle Acres, Paula over at Liberty Farms of Louisiana called her Malice. Paula maintains this was simply because Bellamy's sister was named Joy.

Right... Sure, Paula. 🙄🤣

In Paula's defense, Bellamy was a pretty little baby with a stubborn streak. So maybe Malice wasn't entirely undeserved. And apparently that stubborn streak followed her to Florida. 😂

I've questioned her. I've threatened to sell her. I've looked at her more than once and thought, I just don't know about you.

But here's the thing about pigs.

Sometimes (or most times) you have to shut up and let them grow.

Because somewhere along the way, Bellamy started putting herself together.

She's maturing. She's filling out. And when I took new photos of her the other day, I had one of those annoying breeder moments where you look at the pig you've been criticizing for months and think…

Well, s**t.

Maybe Bellamy wasn't the problem. Maybe I was just impatient. 😂

She's still Bellamy. I'm not getting carried away here. But credit where credit is due; the girl is looking GOOD!!

Apparently Bellamy just needed time to blossom into something a little less Disney Villan. 🤣

If she continues doing what she is doing she has a date for a spring litter.

Sometimes we offer one simply because we can't keep them all. ❤️

Sunflower is an AKKPS registered Tapeka/Boris gilt, AKKPS 58143, who turned one in July. She is double wattled with a 6/5 teat line and is expected to mature into a small-to-medium sized sow.

Her dam, Chloe, is one of the best mothers on our farm: easy farrower, excellent mother and consistently raises her babies well. Sunflower has the same gentle, easygoing temperament that makes her a pleasure to have around.

This isn't a fire-sale pig or one we're trying to get rid of. We retained Sunflower because we liked her, and we also retained two of her brothers. At this point, I simply don't need all three representatives from the same litter/genetics in my breeding program.

Sunflower would be a lovely addition for someone looking for a registered gilt with a strong maternal background, manageable mature size and a calm temperament.

AKKPS registered only.

Dell/Nox's babies are too much! They are all doing incredibly well and I can't get over how sweet they really are. 🥰

Stella has my heart. Always will. She is due with Davey babies near Halloween currently trying to convince me that her belly is all babies and definitely not snacks 🤣

So just know that this gorgeous round potato is one of the building blocks of our herd of cute potatoes 😬
