The CCE Capital Area Agricultural and Horticultural Program (CAAHP) has received a Northeast SARE grant to study the ideal time to harvest hops in the Northeast. During the 2019 harvest season, hop samples were collected from two hop yards in Eastern NY over a three-week period. Fresh samples were shipped to an analytical lab for analysis. Samples were also dried, vacuum packed and frozen to be used in a sensory evaluation.
A meeting will be held at Emporium Farm Brewery on Monday, November 4, 2019 starting at 6:00 P.M. The Emporium is located at 472 North Greenbush Rd (Route 4), Rensselaer, NY 12144-8406. There is no cost to attend this meeting, but registration is requested. Light refreshments will be served.
This is what you can expect from the meeting: Attendees will be given one sheet of paper with each sample number, space to rate the hop sample on a scale of 1-3 (1 being excellent, 2 being passable, 3 being poor). There will be space to write sensory descriptors and overall sample comments.
Special thanks to Kinderhook Creek Hop Yard and Rockin Hops for their cooperation in collecting hop samples. Thanks to Emporium Farm Brewery for hosting this meeting.
