A blast from the last here! This is a picture of our very FIRST day at the Athens Farmers Market. Boy have things changed a little bit!
We still pile all the lettuce high, we still have radishes and turnips on the regular, and though not as often as previous years, there might still be a Blaney child behind the table helping (though, they are significantly larger people than they used to be!😂).
It’s funny to look back on these times. We were naïve and full of energy, had a million ideas, working our tails off attempting to build a farm and business from scratch. Instead of our nice concrete floored building we have now, washed all of these vegetables standing in the gravel, under an old tent, with a long hose that had to run all the way from the barn, because we had no water anywhere else. Boy was it cold!
Obviously, 7 years later, things still aren’t perfect here. Normal farm challenges happen - I’m writing this moments after we just spent the morning deliberating the solution to a failed spinach crop, and how to solve an irrigation problem. And obviously things aren’t always easy - my back still hurts from planting tomatoes! Ups and downs in business, weather, and crops are a challenge! Something we didn’t expect was the emotional toll on a family trying cultivate an environment where everybody can thrive, while also recognizing the work that it takes to create that environment can, itself, take an emotional toll. What a paradox! Challenges abound, even if they’re really pretty Instagram, pictures make things seem like this is a walk in the park :)
But today I’m thankful. 2026 growing season has hit the ground running. In some ways, we’re a little behind, and in some ways things feel like they’re going better than ever. We have some new tools, we tried some new processes, we have some new people, and ultimately we have a renewed spirit of optimism that 2026 is going to be a wonderful Farm year!
None of the story happens without customers who love and support us. The boost of energy our customers give me is incalculable. We have plenty of room in our CSA this year if you are interested in joining us. Link in bio.
Love you all!
