To my boarders and lesson people I had to reschedule....helping some folks that got stranded on the interstate out, so the arena is busy for the rest of day/night. Thanks for your cooperation!!

How to Drive Your Trainer to Drink in 10 Easy Steps:

1) When you first interview a potential new trainer ask if they will require you to ride any school horses.

2) Insist that you are ready to ride a “not boring horse” even though you still panic every time your horse canters a little fast.

3) Argue with all advice given, especially if it involves basics like heels down or eyes up.

4) When you are ready to invest in your own horse, do NOT ask your trainer for help. Go find one online and hopefully something with obvious bowed tendons and an evil glint it its eye.

5) If you are inclined to let your trainer help find a horse, make sure they understand that the ONLY horse for you will be an experienced WC or CH status animal "with scope for more" Must be under age 10 and under 30K, obviously needs to pass a prepurchase and be within a 2-hour drive.

6) Set lofty goals, look at your trainer's plan to get you there, decide it would be better to do things your own way. Then complain constantly about lack of progress.

7) Set a rigid timeline for selling your own horse, refuse to compromise on price.

8.) Quit their program citing "costs" or "changing goals" as a reason. Run into them at the next show with your new, more expensive, trainer and horse.

9) Text your trainer on their day off reminding them about all the little extras your horse needs after its workout.

10) Also text them around 6 PM to see if they have time to squeeze you into the schedule tonight. This works best when done at least weekly.

This list is meant to be lighthearted, anyone who has been in the business for more than a year or two has likely experienced ALL of these and could probably add more! Feel free to post at your barn so everyone knows when they owe you wine!

I will never be able to describe the power of time spent cleaning stalls.

During this time I have made some of the biggest decisions in my life. I have silently thought my way, step by step, through some of the biggest disasters of my life. I have ugly cried my way through heartbreak all while cleaning stalls. I’ve thrown bags of sawdust in range as I thought about all of the sh*tty things going on in my life. Each stall has oddly given me a place of comfort as I stood, fork in hand, feeling empty during the times I’ve felt so alone. It has taught me to appreciate the serenity of the quiet. Realizing the ones in my life I can count on and the numerous fake people who are only present when convenient for themselves. I’ve enjoyed a free gym membership, as I’ve sculpted my back and shoulders into “he man”, just sifting away. I’ve stumbled my way, dry heaving, with sunglasses ....cleaning stalls through last night’s hangover, because god forbid my best friend be forced to stand in a dirty stall. Today I spend my morning, cleaning stalls and processing my life. I’m mentally making life changing decisions, as I write this post, knowing that whatever I decide, it will be the right one, as it was made in a stall.

I understand that there are those who think us horse people should get “real” jobs. And that all we do is spend our days “playing” around. I’m genuinely sorry that you have never been exposed to a lifestyle that teaches you discipline, how to love unconditionally, put something other then yourself first, bust your ass for the things you want and need, kept humble by a 1200 lb animal, the real meaning of “hard work”, early mornings and late nights spent caring for something other than YOU. Those are things a “real job” will never give you.

Some of you haven’t cleaned stalls .....and it shows.

Great words from my friend Breck! I’m always out of my comfort zone doing these different things...but I love how she made it so easy for women like me to come in and learn and have fun!! Our biggest competition is usually ourselves!

It’s hard to put myself out there, my mind is my biggest competitor and the fear of the unknown can be crippling at times.

All of the above things are true for me and EVERY..SINGLE day I have to work hard at all of them. Sitting on the sidelines, listening to the little voice in my head telling me I’m not good enough, haven’t practiced hard enough, not capable enough and the fear of the worst possible outcome in every situation.

I’m coming to understand that putting yourself out there to fail is how you learn and ultimately the road that will lead you to success. Drowning out the voices with you are good enough, you have practiced enough and you are capable quiets the noise of you can’t. Trusting God and his plan takes away the fears and makes life much more enjoyable!

Why am I telling you this? Because this is ultimately why I started the Top Hand Cowgirl Challenge. A few years ago I attended my first Cowgirl Challenge put on by Kim Ledebuhr. I wanted to go in the worst way, my husband was encouraging me to go and a friend was up for the road trip and the challenge as well. However, the voices in my head were saying save your money, your not prepared, you don’t know anyone...and so on. It ended with me knowing I would regret not going and in the truck headed south. It was fun, different and a chance for me to get out and compete against myself. What I most remember about that weekend is how I felt when I left...we, as women, wear many different hats. Even though we know it’s impossible to keep every single ball in the air at all times while looking good and keeping your circus looking good as well...we still try, extremely hard and it’s exhausting! While trying to keep everyone alive and looking good.....I forgot that I love horses, WHY I love horses and that I LOVE being a cowgirl!

My absolute favorite thing about the Top Hand Cowgirl Challenges are the stories! The stories of women overcoming their fear of failure, the challenge of trying something new, the stories of how they got into horses, why they are in horses, the stories of success and failure❤️. It is amazing, powerful and the WHY to the question of “Do you miss not competing because you are putting these on”?

Winning is showing up because you will never know if you never try❤️.

We would love to see your favorite Cowgirl picture or hear your story!

09/10/2019

The problem with horse training is that society is set up to believe that you can buy a service and have things the way you want in a certain time frame. People look at horse training as if they're spending their money on a product. And yet even the best horse trainers will tell you the horse takes its own time, and no one can guarantee a horse will be doing what you want from it when you want from it. The other problem is that even if your trainer can get t done with your horse, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to. Getting a horse right takes an amount of commitment on the owners part to develop the same type of relationship that the trainer has, otherwise how can you expect from your horse for yourself what your trainer gets, when it's they who have put in the hours, the sweat, the patience and the desire to get Along with that horse? You aren't spending money on a tune up for your car that you can take home and drive.
The fact that money is involved leads people to believe they deserve something for what they paid, and they do, but, it happens in the animals time, not the humans. I think any good trainer would say they would do this for free if they could, just to help horses and people. And yet, we all have to eat.

Horses UK and Ireland

“It’s absolutely mind boggling if you think about it.

Your horse gets absolutely nothing out of being competitive for you. Not a darn thing. Of course horses are bred for specific jobs, or they’re bred to be athletic to a certain degree. However, horses don’t wake up thinking about chasing cans, or cows, or flying over jumps.

They have no idea how much money is added to the pot. They have no idea that this is a qualifier. They have no idea that this is the short go.

And DESPITE us... DESPITE our nerves, our flaws, our incorrect ques, our huge emotions, they get the job done to their very best ability. Even when we fail them by letting our emotions get in the way, they come back and they try again. For US. Whoa. Let that sink in. If only we could all be so understanding.

To think of an animal that is forgiving and flexible enough to put up with the repetition of practice, the intense nerves of the rider, the stress of hauling and still meet you at the gate for scratches is MIND. BLOWING.

If you haven’t done so lately. Thank your horse.

If you’re successful, thank the horses that put you there and made you. Thank the horses that gave everything they had for you simply because you ASKED them to.

If you’re still on the journey to success, thank the horses that made you fall in love with your sport and who have helped give you the confidence to want to learn more and be better.

We can never stop learning as horsemen and horsewomen, and by continuing our education every horse in our future will be better off.

Next time you head to the arena leave your ego at the door and thank your horse!”

Hey guys! I have loved coming up to Broadway Farms to work on everyone’s horses 💜 I wanted to post all the services i offer in case you need your equine friends worked on 🐴 ➕PEMF Treatments (many of you have seen me there with my little yellow box) PEMF helps with: improving performance, relieve pain, decrease inflammation, enhance muscle function, strength, recovery, increase circulation, helps wound healing & more ➕Body Balancing What is body balancing? Body balancing is a combination of several different modalities and techniques. Pressure point therapy, myofascial release, to name a few; as well as, flexing and stretching for increased mobility and range of motion. Natural body alignment occurs when muscle spasms are released and the skeletal structure is allowed to return to its proper position without force. ➕Red Light Therapy Helps treat damage to skin, as well as problems with muscles, tendons, bones and ligaments ➕Equine Massage Therapy therapeutic application of hands-on deep tissue techniques to the voluntary muscle system - for the purpose of increasing circulation, reducing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, promoting healing and increasing range of motion ➕Thermal Imaging Thermal imaging works by building up a picture of your horse’s circulation and thermal pattern in any area of his body in a simple, non-invasive, stress-free way. It enables the identification of problem areas, known as ‘hotspots’ or ‘coldspots’ ➕Flexineb Treatments a portable equine nebulizer. Helps open airways & more I’m sure I’m forgetting to list 😂🤣 If you’d like to have any of these services done please call or text me 641-512-0733 or let Jodie Distad know and she can set a date and time 💜
