Petty Creek Ranch has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for program Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
Petty Creek Ranch underwent a rigorous, unannounced, and multiday onsite review on November 16, 2020. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Petty Creek Ranch’s standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, use of evidence-based treatment approaches, and professional ethics, to name a few.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Petty Creek Ranch for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

Petty Creek Ranch received state licensure as an American Society of Addiction Medicine level 3.5 Inpatient Chemical Dependency Facility from the Montana Department of Health and Human Services on June 18, 2020. Opening its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, Petty Creek Ranch honored its mission of providing comprehensive substance abuse treatment to adolescent males in a manner that is safe, effective, and ethical. Infection prevention measures and quality assurance efforts during this time laid the foundation for program accreditation, as operations required rigorous diligence and an organization-wide collaborative spirit among the treatment team. To prepare for the accreditation process, Petty Creek Ranch performed extensive internal audits, conducted client interviews, and implemented performance improvement plans on all phases of its operation.
