Any cattleman worth their salt understands the accomplishment of taking a heavyweight prospect steer, strategically holding him, then layering it on carefully to position him to be fresh, powerful, and dialed in as a heavyweight market steer the next year (in the heaviest class even).
Most calves force you to choose when their peak will be. Often as a prospect the heavyweight wins but is not always practical as a market steer to be fresh and functional by such a late date. Royce busted that restriction and we couldn’t be prouder of the way he proved himself in year two!
Royce clocked in at 1,725lbs and you’d never know it with how well he carries it!
