Here's a first in 10 years. Someone dumped this pair of geese on our farm while we were away for a couple hours. Quite tame, the dogs went right up to them with no fear or attack. They were heading into our pole barn when we went out to close up for the night. They were more than happy to go into the safety of the turkey pen. They will have a good home here, or at daughter Lauren's farm. I think they are American Buff breed, young, and possibly male and female.

Props to Farmer Scott for staying up late to monitor the sprinklers he put on the orchard. Many of our trees were blooming for the first time ever, sure hope we saved them. Coated in ice. Did not take a pic because they look scary, and one is leaning SO badly. Already thawing, will assess the damage later.

It may still be winter, but we are looking forward to Spring. Soon we will be ordering chicks then taking reservations for our first run of broiler chickens, projected ready by end of May.

Well, the dreaded day has come. Over the past year, layer mash feed costs have increased 25%, making it necessary for us to raise the price of a dozen chicken eggs to $3.50. We have not raised our price in about 5 years, and at this time, we will not be raising the price of the duck eggs as we just raised it within the past 2 years.

We are closely watching feed/grain prices, and a double-digit percentage increase in feed prices in 2021. We will continue to monitor the market, and may need to adjust egg pricing in the future.

Cleaning out/rebedding pens today. Also reconfiguring the sheep pens. Boys' pen on left made larger, both pens moving the gates to the front. This will make it easier to clean out the pens. Left pic is before, right pic is the deconstructed pens. Rehung boys' gate, will hopefully finish the project tomorrow.

30 turkeys processed, bagged and tagged! They dressed out a bit larger than expected, but we were still able to fulfill all customers' requests. Did you miss out this year? Make a note for next year. Keep in mind, we will start raising broilers again in April, at least that's the plan. Tomorrow Scott and I will be out delivering!

Welcome new members! Wish you were all here helping us do our least favorite task; cleaning out the chicken coop and preparing it for winter. Next up, barn pens. We are actually going to reconfigure them to accommodate our changed flock. Need a larger pen for Cosmo, Stitch, and Rameo. Larger pen for all 3 goats. They stay warmer together in winter, and we will have an extra pen for spring lambing.

Have come to a difficult decision. Because production is down, winter is coming, and our hyper local customers are buying more, I will no longer be delivering eggs, chicken or duck, to Fort Wayne. We just can't serve the 25 + customers in the FW area.

To protect the turkeys from predators, they have to be penned. Plenty of room for running and flying. We bring them feed supplements daily. Here they are enjoying long grass and tomatoes. This morning they went nuts for halved pattypan squash.

09/28/2020

To those customers who have reserved chickens: the birds will be processed and ready for delivery the 17th/18th October. At this time, there are no more available for reservation. However, we do have a few turkeys not spoken for.

When buying for Christmas, keep Creakey Acres Farm in mind. We'd love to create a farm goods gift basket for giving. Canned and baked goods, soap, honey, noodles, eggs, quilted items. All custom, so prices will be varied. Private message to get the conversation started.
