We aim to produce all the components of a healthy, balanced diet within one thriving farm system. We use our own compost from animals and plants to enrich the soil and promote healthy pastures. Our compost is enlivened by Biodynamic preparations to encourage healthy microbial activity and create a balanced organic fertilizer. Our crops and animals move across the farm in a rotation. This keeps bot

h the crops and animals disease free and prevents soil depletion. The crops are the breathing of the farm, and the animals are the heartbeat.

It was a busy week on the farm. So for farm lunch Wednesday we ordered out from China Lake Provisions who makes really delicious pizza and they even were happy to slice up our pepperoni to add on top! Alongside the pizza we had a spring mix and radish salad. Radish’s are from Four Waters Farm and are available in the store now!

We celebrated Ashley H’s birthday, with Blue-barb cobblers (a regular and a dairy free and gluten free option). Both were made with rhubarb from the Squirrels & Stuff Farm (available in the farm store later this week). The blueberries 🫐 were from Burke Hill Farm .

Also made with Sandra all-purpose flour, Misty Brook Farm Cornmeal & butter in the cobbler dough.

We topped it off with our whipped cream sweetened with Mr. Maple Syrup (also available in the store).

We have radishes in the Farm Store from Four Waters Farm out of Montville, Maine!

Last weeks farm lunch by Nick Ray - Chili Cheese Dogs & an optional Flo’s inspired hotdog with their famous relish from Cape Neddick, Maine.

The Chili was made with ground lamb & beef.

Our own Misty Brook Farm hot dogs, these dogs are pre-smoked by Herring Brothers, and are best served by a steam finish (in the MBF team’s opinion anyway).

Served with a kennebec potato and mustard side and an Spring Mix Salad.

Cute livestock team moment. Letting the cows loose on accident and then gathering them back up together 😅

A few days ago, Brendan, Alister, and William officially got our potatoes in the ground! 🥔

They rolled out our trusty potato planter for its annual outing. This machine is an antique.

The potato planter was made in 1912 and the brand is “Iron Age” still has the original paint and original hand-painted decal on the side. It’s all original wood, we don’t think it’s ever been left outside in 114 years.

The tractor pulling it is a 1946 Allis Chalmers G.
When Alister was 6 or 7 years old he used to draw pictures of that tractor out of a book.

He then bought this Allis Chalmers G when he was between 10-12 years old.

Here is the quick update on our potato field. We rotate fields every year for soil health. This time, the potatoes are in the field behind the farm house near the square pond.

We cleared out the last of the farm store inventory to use as seed potatoes.

Quick tip: If you still have some of our potatoes at home and they are starting to sprout, don’t toss them! Pop them in the ground or a deep container right now to grow your own backyard crop.

Great way to end the day.

Farm lunch last week was served cold due to the heat.

Shepardess pie was made by Erin & Ashley using our ground beef, ground lamb, kennebec potatoes, eggs, butter, milk & flour. Plus, onions and a salad of arugula and pea shoots mixed together.

They made a Béchamel sauce with the milk, butter & flour and then mixed half into the mashed potatoes and half into the meat mixture. A dried loaf of sourdough was used as the breadcrumbs.

A dairy free & gluten free option also made its way to the table utilizing plus seasonings as the “cheese” base.

The dairy version had some “Morgan” from & “Haymaker Cheddar” from shredded into the center layer.

A delicious way to utilize local ingredients and will be perfect served hot for the cool and rainy days ahead. Checkout our farm store for the ingredients - we’re open every day dawn to dusk!
