All the beauty and brightness of the land has become amplified since becoming a tsida (mother). We anticipated the hummingbirds arrival to coincide with baby's and they were right on time. Nate and I welcomed our beautiful baby boy on Easter and we have been smitten, tired and have felt so loved by our family and community. We are so grateful to start a new chapter at Ts'uyya Farm as a family. 🥰

Mid March updates around the garden. Hoping Spring brings some rain soon. It's always fun to be outside and notice the wildlife that stops here. Things are really setting in about how our lives are about to change in a giant way soon and looking forward to sharing all this beauty with our new babe. Sending love to you all in this season of new growth.

Been enjoying seeing all the perennials start blooming and creating new growth. The Mexican oregano is making a lovely ground cover, the asparagus are a welcome addition to dishes, and the garlic chives are abundant. Tasks this month include green house starts and redoing the compost area for new raised beds.

Transitions. I've been in deep hibernation mode these past few months to get ready for the greatest transition of my life, becoming a new mama. It's been a sweet slow down to really nourish and be gentle with myself this season as we prepare for a literal Spring birth. It's also been the warmest winter and the signs of Spring are upon us as the bulbs peak out the ground and the cranes start their annual migration. Nature's sweet reminders of hope and renewal keep me comforted in the craziness of our humanness.

Admiring all the colors around the farm. It's been a warm Fall but I'm glad we can visibly see nature slowing down and turning toward rest. I've been forced to slow down from a head cold so thank goodness we made that elderberry syrup the other week. We'll be offering a community medicine making day as soon as I get better. On our list of things to make are comfrey poultices for broken bones and sprains, a yarrow antiseptic powder for cuts and scrapes and some tinctures.

Always a pleasure to host Cultivating Roots and Resistance Youth Fellows and Mentors. We started the day by harvesting peppers and prepping a bed for garlic planting. Everyone took a turn on the broad fork. In the afternoon we learned about pine, ginger and elderberry medicine. Everyone took home some pine and ginger cough syrup and elderberry syrup to fight those illnesses we often encounter once the season transitions. We had plenty of laughs and good food to share as well. The youth always leave me with a sense of hope and relief because they are already leading with such good hearts.

September goodness. I can't believe Fall equinox is a few days away. Savoring all the sweet things in the garden before it all fades to yellow and brown. This growing season was more about observation and letting things happen without overthinking. A lesson I am still learning throughout life. I've come to enjoy the wildness of the garden, the untamed bits that make their homes where they want.
