Real talk: if you’ve ever had my masala chai at the farmer’s market and thought “WHY can’t I make it like this at home?!” …it’s probably not you. It’s the milk.

Milk + sweetener can change everything — flavor, body, creaminess, even how the spices land.

If you can tolerate dairy, whole milk is hands-down the best chai experience. Traditional masala chai isn’t “brew and splash milk.” The magic is when you add milk + sweetener at the end and bring it back to a boil — the fats + proteins + sugar + spices actually meld together and it becomes extra creamy and ridiculously satisfying.

Alternative milks are a little trickier because a lot of them aren’t designed for high heat (and to make them “milky,” they often add oils/gums/etc). So there’s always a little give-and-take. Do what works best for your body — just know some will behave better than others.

If you want oat milk that can hang with real masala chai (yes, boiling the milk), here are my top picks in order:

1. Planet Oat Barista Lovers — ONLY this version. Not Original. Not Extra Creamy. (Those don’t taste great with boiled chai.)
2. Oatly Full Fat — the full fat one has the best “milky” vibe.
3. Chobani Extra Creamy — decent backup, but it starts to get a taste I don’t love as much.

And almond milk? I usually don’t recommend it for masala chai because it’s not naturally creamy, so it often needs a bunch of add-ins… and it just doesn’t perform well with heat.

What I serve at the market: Planet Oat Barista Lovers + organic coconut sugar (a little healthier than processed sugar and that caramel-y flavor with chai is chef’s kiss).

Ok your turn — what milk are you using in your chai right now? And what are you sweetening with? Drop it in the comments so we can compare notes 👇

Is life feeling heavier than usual?
Because honestly… this past week has been hard for me too.

After dealing with some hard stuff this morning, I finally got to sit down outside with a fresh hot chai and just watch the bees buzz around the new blossoms on my tree, feeling grateful for the fresh air after the rain — and it grounded me in a way I didn’t know I needed.

I’m still showing up, still juggling a lot, still feeling the pressure and the anxiety some days — and I’m learning (over and over) that I have to make space for the little things that support me. Today that looked like taking a few minutes for myself, breathing, walking, being gentle with my mind, and coming back to my ritual.

This is why I started Chai Chai Love in the first place — not as a quick fix, but as something that helps you feel grounded and reminded… you’re doing better than you think.

So how are you doing? Really?
Drop one word in the comments. And if you want a listening ear, you can DM me. No fixing. Just love. 🤍

P.S. If you want connection in person, I’m hosting our next Chai + Chat Meetup on April 19th at 5pm at 📍 Lost Cultures Tea Bar , 1761 Bellamah Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM. (near Sawmill Market / Old Town)

Come be held by community. ☕

Testing adding chai chai love dry mushroom chai mix to a protein smoothie without brewing the chai.

I often get people in the farmers market asking me if this would work and so decided to give it a try.

This is a fast and easy way to enjoy the mushroom masala chai in another form for those days you don’t want to brew the chai.

If you already do larger batch brewing and save the brewed chai in the fridge you could also just add the brewed chai to the shake as well.

Try it out and let me know what you think!
