on this episode of small business owner 🎬

register’s off. someone needs a band-aid. the line isn’t getting shorter. and you’ve got approximately zero minutes to spiral about any of it.

no understudy. no commercial break. just you, your team, and the show must go on energy that nobody warned you about when you started this thing.

new season. new location. coming soon 👀

new barkada unlocked 🫶🏽

we brought the food, cora brought the vibes, and One ABQ / Los Poblanos open space did the rest. this is what AAPI Heritage Month looks like in albuquerque — two filipinas, one picnic table, and a full homemade spread that had people stopping to ask what smelled so good.

came through and we just… talked. about food, about community, about what it means to build something real in a city that feels more like home every day. barkadas means friends in filipino — and this is exactly the kind of friendship we had in mind.

🔗 follow for more filipino food, more collabs, and more moments like this one. albuquerque, we’re just getting started.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we sat down with the amazing Cora Dey for a little picnic and a lot of good conversation out at One ABQ / Los Poblanos Open Space here in Albuquerque.

Cindy brought a full homemade Filipino spread — the kind of food that makes people stop mid-walk and ask what’s⭐️Cora | Overdressed in Abq eating— and we just got to talking. About food, about community, about what it means to be Filipino and building something here in New Mexico.

Barkadas means friends in Filipino. And that’s really what this is all about.

If you’re new here from Cora’s page welcome Barkadas ABQ. Follow along for Filipino food, community love, and everything we’re cooking up next. 🇵🇭

✅️ Almost a decade in the beauty industry
✅️ 8 years and counting in digital design
✅️ 2 years as a restaurant owner

Learned how to drive 4 years ago. Swimming and bike riding are on my 2026 checklist.

Some people have it all figured out at 22. I’m still adding new things to learn — and I think that’s the better story.

It’s never too late to start. It’s never too late to grow. The checklist doesn’t stop until you do. 🧡

if you’ve been curious about the adobo rice bowl, the lumpia, or that ube champorado everyone keeps asking about — lily’s your girl. she’ll walk you through the whole menu like she’s known you forever. because that’s just her energy.

Five stars from real people in Albuquerque New Mexico who walked up to a Filipino food stall at Cottonwood Mall not knowing what to expect and left wanting more. That never gets old. 😭❤️

Barkadas ABQ is Filipino comfort food made from scratch every single day bold flavors, homemade everything, and a self taught cook who puts her whole heart into every single plate.

If you have been thinking about stopping by let this be your sign. Come hungry. Leave happy. Leave a review if we did our job right. 🥟🍲🇵🇭

She left New York City with a recipe, a dream and absolutely zero guarantees. 🇵🇭❤️

This is Cindy. She is a self taught Filipino cook who grew up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, relocated to Albuquerque New Mexico during the pandemic and built Barkadas ABQ from scratch, a Filipino food business in a mall food court that has catered for TV productions, fed hundreds of people at events across the city and is still just getting started.

Nobody handed her a road map. Nobody told her it would work. She just kept going anyway.

To every small business owner watching this the one who is tired, the one who is second guessing, the one who is doing everything themselves and wondering if it is ever going to be enough — this one is for you. 🫵

You started something real. You show up for it every single day. You owe it to yourself to see where this thing goes.

Keep going. You deserve to find out. 🌱🇵🇭

Bringing a special delivery of Filipino food to the National Hispanic Cultural Center. There is something so special about seeing our vibrant Ube cookies against the backdrop of such an iconic Albuquerque landmark.

As a Filipino food business in New Mexico, we are always looking for ways to celebrate our heritage alongside the rich culture of ABQ. We’ve been spending a lot of time at the NHCC lately... just planting some seeds for the future.

If you’re looking for the best Ube in Albuquerque, stay tuned. We have some exciting secrets we aren’t ready to share just yet! 🤐💜

Just two people running a Filipino food business in Albuquerque on caffeine, determination and absolutely nothing else 😂☕🇵🇭
Nobody writes about this part in the small business playbook. The mid-shift coffee break that saves everything. The moment you and your person just look at each other like — we’re doing it though. We’re really doing it.
Barkadas ABQ is built on heart, hustle and however many cups it takes to get through a Saturday. We wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️
Come eat the food that fueled all this chaos 😂

Some days the kitchen feels like the easiest place in the world to be. Some days it doesn’t. But Cindy shows up anyway. 🍚🇵🇭

That’s the thing nobody tells you about running a small business — it’s not the big moments that build it. It’s the Tuesday prep when you’re tired. The Saturday morning when you’d rather stay home. The quiet days when the orders are slow and you make the food anyway because this is what you do and you believe in it.

Consistency doesn’t always look glamorous. Sometimes it looks like a kitchen, a cutting board and just you. And that’s enough. That’s actually everything. ❤️

To every small business owner out there doing the quiet unglamorous work right now we see you. Keep going. The people who need to find you will find you. 🌱
