We have “bottle” lambs, I use the term loosely because Darla is mothering and letting her boys nurse; she just can’t produce enough milk to feed two BIG ram lambs. Journey loves to help feed them and I’m happy that so far both boys have been respectful and not jumping on us.

Journey and I love going out and saying “where are my babies?” And seeing both boys stop what they are doing and come running.

If we have bottle lambs this is how I prefer it for sure, mom still loves her lambs….I’m just the lunch lady.

Memorial weekend historically is “sheep paddocks get cleaned”. Boy did they need it after the long winter; there’s about 2 feet of hay/manure packed. Thankful for my handy dandy tractor which made quick work of the task.

Even had my supervisor join me, but it wasn’t too long into the project and I caught her sleeping on the job 😆

Charlie and I have been working on earning his Canine Good Citizen credentials. Last night he “won” a game while we were in class, he’s the youngest dog in the class and he’s surpassing all of our expectations 🧡

With Darla only having half a functioning udder I’ve been supplementing her lambs with a bottle. She loves her babies and is feeding them some but it’s not enough for two full time. Fortunately, Persephone and Fritz lambed around the same time and are REALLY overproducing! They are each producing over a half gallon of milk while keeping their lambs on them FULL TIME.

So thankful for my high producing ewes in my flock. I’m also eternally grateful for the best little shepherdess around who helps me do chores and feed baby lambs 💜🖤🐑

Darla had two BIG ram lambs Sunday late morning. She had been laboring (pre-labor + labor) for most of the night; up & down, pawing at the ground, looking at her belly. I went out around 10:30am with the idea I was going to at least check her to make sure we didn’t have a lamb jam going on. She didn’t but I felt a big lamb and decided since I was there I would assist in delivery. Once she cleaned his face sufficiently I checked her for a second and sure enough there was another one.

Darla has blessed us with two ram lambs weighing 15.78lbs and 14.48lbs. I love the one hat has a “J” on his head 🤍🖤

Caught Darla with early labor behaviors last night. Up, down, pawing, looking back at her belly….

Nothing like having done lamb check twice leaving for a meeting and seeing one of your maiden ewes lambed a couple days earlier than you expected 😅 Thankful for bosses who understand agriculture and farm life!

Big Black Betty had a black ewe lamb (I’m not convinced she’s done yet).

Fritz had a single ram lamb. She loves her lamb so far (she rejected her lambs last year).

Woke up at 2:45am to these sweet babes born! Persephone is being an attentive mama this year (she lambed in a snowbank last year and sadly that lamb passed). Her offer and teats look significantly better this year too (second freshening).

One of the things that I think is pretty cool is genetically she’s not double white; meaning when bred to a black ram she can produce color 🤍🖤

I love being able to check in on mamas and their lambs without disturbing them. I’m still keeping a close eye of Freckles’ twins but they seem to be doing well and will get introduced to the flock the next sunny day 🤍🖤🐑

This flashy ram was born last night 😍 out of Laurel by Noble. It’s a good thing it’s a ram lamb or I’d be keeping it! Looks + genetics = 🤍🖤
