Feather patterns what are they?
First and foremost, we highly recommend having some basic knowledge and understanding of what you are breeding to avoid potential headaches down the road. Mottled a project in Silkies that has had a popularity explosion in recent years. To breed for mottled you first need to understand it is a recessive gene, It requires two copies to express. Any color or pattern of chicken can be mottled; all they need is two doses of the mottled gene, i.e. homozygotes. Even white which will hardly show the mottled pattern can be mottled and breed accordingly. Tolbunt for example, are laced or sometimes other patterns plus mottled. Also,with age, the mottled appearance changes. It doesn’t stay the same.
Carriers
( commonly referred to as splits) doesn’t show at all when heterozygous and the bird simply “carries” the mottled gene. Carriers have some white tips to feathers, white frosting around the head or even largely white feathers especially on the wings.
Feather Pattern
white spangling with two copies of the gene. It is often used in combination with other mutations to create varieties such as Millie Fleur.

What kind of week we had?
Reds gone.
2 boxes of hatching eggs no go. Air sacs were so scrambled nothing could form.
One customer did not receive her shirt.
Thanks a lot USPS!!!!!
Oh and babies I am suppose to ship? Mostly cockerels. I don’t think I’ve seen this many c***s in a long time…
I feel defeated..

I forgot to update those patiently waiting on shirts. I did not mail out due to holiday weekend. All shipments will be out Friday because I’m sure things will be backed up. I do not ship lives during this time so depending on weather on both ends, they will be mailed the following Tuesday.

Shirt boxes will be mailed out tomorrow a long with hatching eggs, provided that there’s enough. Otherwise, it may take some time due to our losses. I’m down to three broody hens which includes the red partridge frizzle Sassy Cakes, America and Dandelion. Three hens that are not broody, Persimmon, Pumpkin and Ginger. Our sweet puppy dog satin was one that was taken. One that could be mistaken for a red mottled and America’s sister. America thankfully is in the building inside an enclosed pen on eggs.
