West Wind Farm Providing a safe home for retired horses, with 24-hour turnout and daily loving care.
(3)

In 2016 West Wind Farm closed its former Braddock Road location. WWF no longer breeds or raises young stock; we now focus on providing a safe home for a few retired horses, mostly eventers, with 24-hour turnout and daily loving care at our Peach Orchard Lane location.

Aapelli has had a good breakfast and a nice nap in the sun, and now is trying to persuade Embargoed to play over the fence a little. Embargoed humored him briefly but decided on a snooze instead.

We're delighted to welcome this adorable weanling colt to stay with us for a few months. He's half-Arab, half-Hanoverian, and all sweetness. It's so nice to have a youngster on the farm again.

We said a sad goodbye today to Zia Red Chief, a friend of many many years. He was 27, and that big old heart of his was finally giving out. Condolences to his loving owner Alice, and to his constant companion Secret for the past several years. I have never seen such a closely bonded pair, especially since Chief began losing his vision a few years ago. We are grateful to be able to lay him to rest here on the farm alongside of a few of his old companions. We'll miss you, big guy. RIP.

Three of the Bay Boys Retiree Association (Embargoed, Remy, and Hank) are peacefully enjoying a warm summery evening, after a day mostly spent dozing under the fans. The fourth, Cash, who has his priorities, is still polishing his feed bucket.

From 2013 - our then-yearling Oldenburg Sailor appreciated our granddaughter's sympathy when he had to stand in Epsom salts for a foot abcess. As always, Penny supervised closely.

I love this post about the incredible Valegro - his sweet disposition is as marvelous as all his years of beautiful dressage.

I didn’t think it was possible to love this horse any more than I do, but then he does this and I just burst. As it’s Christmas, Carl gave his god daughter Ruby Hughes a surprise lesson on Blueberry and just look how lovely he is with her. Super riding from Ruby too! Little stars x

Beautiful Blueberry will be at Liverpool Horse Show on the 28th so do come along x

Sad hearts at West Wind Farm today: we laid to rest our dearly loved Grandpa Jack. Nearly 10 years ago our friend Denise Partlow brought Jack to us for retirement care. He kept order in the paddocks through several crops of foals, protecting the weanlings and informing the yearlings of their proper place in life. He had strong opinions but excellent manners, and gave us pleasure every day. And every single weekend, Denise came to spend time with him, grooming him from nose to tail and filling his buckets with pounds of carrots, shredded just right to accommodate his dwindling array of teeth. He lived a happy 31 years, beloved. We'll miss him greatly.

Six years ago, when Peach Orchard was home to a variety of young stock, Grandpa Jack was kept busy managing their activity. In this photo, he had herded Sport away from the suspicious green ball, but Bonnie raced over to claim it and dribble it downfield. I miss those sassy young'uns, but Jack is still with us, keeping an eye on things.

Here's a nice memory from April 2012. That's when Deana's beautiful almost-yearling Bonnie came to Peach Orchard, where she met her two-year old full sister Serafina, and her new baby full sister Summer, as well as her half brother, Sailor. For a happy year or two, we had a very colorful field full of Sempatico M babies.

Grandpa Jack seems happy with his move to the Executive Suite during the recent ice storms. He is close to his buddies but has his own private quarters, and undisturbed access to all the hay he wants, chopped or regular, plus all the time in the world to munch his Senior Feed at his leisure. All well deserved as our senior statesman.

The West Wind Farm family sadly lost a cherished member on Thursday. Our dear old Shetland, Chipper, left us for greener pastures, after giving us almost 17 years of his funny antics, affection and companionship. He taught all the Carson grandchildren to ride (including a few classic pony dirty tricks to keep them on their toes), and enjoyed countless hours of being brushed and combed and braided and costumed by every small child who came to the farm. He was well into his 30s by now, but we would have loved for him to live forever. RIP, Chippy.
