AUGUST 11 - The 2022 Class of Leadership Calhoun County (LCC) held their Ag and Financial Sector Day on Thursday. Thank you so much to Greenway Plants, Trantham Farms, Inc. (especially for some of the photos!), and Rosie's Gourmet 2 Go for telling us more about our local Ag sector and to Jonathan Mosley, Dr. Mark Hearn, Jeremy Farr, R. Clay Blackwell, Bill Miller, and Maryann Gendron for educating our class on the importance of Calhoun County's current market climate, cryptocurrency, investments, estate planning, and the history of banking!
Yesterday was a blast with Leadership Calhoun County with the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. This year long program has introduced me to so many people, programs, and opportunities in our area! Yesterday, we heard from the Trantham family at Trantham Farms, Inc., viewed the Greenway Plants, Inc. operation with Jon Hegeman, and heard from local banking and market professionals. Our community is filled with such inspiring, hard working, and passionate people. Thanks for all the info! Can’t wait to see what we can do with the Calhoun County Fair Alabama
Yesterday, the Leadership Calhoun County and the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce were brought out to Trantham Farms to learn about our company. We were able to have Doug, Troy, Page, Daniel, Carla, and David speak on behalf of Trantham Farms, Inc. and give some insight as to what we do every day. Doug was able to give everyone who visited a great understanding of our company and how we are engulfed in everyday life here in Calhoun County Alabama. Troy and Page offered up some insight to the transportation side of things, talking about our feed haul truck and trailer business. Lastly, the winners of the Outstanding Young Farm Family named by Alabama Farmers Federation, Daniel and Carla Trantham, talked about Trantham Farms farm equipment, row crop, and some day-to-day things that are involved in keeping this farm up and running. We hope that every single leadership member walked away with some new information that they can take home to their family and friends! Trantham Services is so grateful to be a part of such a great community with amazing people to share the area with.
Good morning Trantham Services! Here’s a little back story on how Trantham Services got started:
Trantham Inc began with Grady and Earlene Trantham in 1951 in a little Alabama town called Alexandria. Trantham started as a small poultry and cattle farm. Grady and Earlene had 7 kids and all 9 of them helped on the farm into the 70’s while Grady worked at M&H Valve as an electrician.
With the poultry houses no longer in operation in the 1970’s, three of Grady and Mary Earlene’s kids joined together and were determined to expand their family farm. Gene, David, and Doug (with the help of their father Grady) planted row crop on 100 acres of rented land in hopes of continuing the family farm. Luckily, their row crops were a success! They saw potential and began purchasing land where they could and have grown the farm to 700 acres of Trantham owned land and 750 rented acres that they still farm to this day.
With the farm rapidly growing, the brothers continued to build the business. Gene, David, and Doug bought a single truck and trailer to help on the farm. When the truck was not being used on the farm, they decided to put the truck to use hauling wood product for Georgia Pacific. Again, the Trantham brothers found themselves with another booming business. They bought 2 more trucks to haul agriculture and wood products and it took off from there. The trucking portion of Trantham started with that 1 farm truck and has now grown to 150 trucks in 2022. Trantham saw a profit in both the farming and trucking industry. This recognition is what caused the business to be held under 2 names: Trantham Farms and Trantham Services. Trantham Farms, Inc. is where you can find information about our crop and commercial feed sales. Go check them out! Trantham Services, Inc. is where you can find information about our trucking business.
Today, Trantham Services contracts with more than 4 industry leading poultry companies. We supply these companies with trucks and drivers to haul poultry feed and live birds across Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. We also have our own truck shops to ensure that our equipment is reliable and well maintained. Most of our fleet is made up of 10 speed Peterbilt’s and bulk auger trailers.
Trantham Inc started as a small family-owned poultry and cattle farm and is now a booming row crop and trucking business. Trantham farms 1200 acres of corn, wheat, soybeans, and cotton. The cattle business is still intact with 250 head. Trantham is proud to be family owned and managed by David, Doug, and three of the grandchildren: Troy, Page, and Daniel. All of us at Trantham are glad you’re here and hope to be of service to you soon! Happy farming and hauling from us to YOU!
