Over the past year, we have continued building momentum toward a community-owned grocery store that will increase access to healthy foods, create economic opportunity, support local entrepreneurship, and serve as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization throughout Aliquippa.

This year's meeting is an opportunity to celebrate our progress, share project updates, discuss what's ahead, and hear directly from the community that is helping shape this vision. Together, we will reflect on what we've accomplished and explore the next steps required to bring the Aliquippa Food Coop to life.

One of the most exciting aspects of this journey has been the involvement of our local youth. Through educational programming, site visits, and visioning sessions, Aliquippa students have played an active role in helping imagine what this cooperative can become. Their energy, ideas, and commitment remind us that this project is about much more than a grocery store—it's about investing in the future of our community.

Whether you are already a member-owner, interested in learning more, or simply curious about the project, we encourage you to join us. Your voice, perspective, and support are important as we continue building a cooperative that reflects the needs and aspirations of Aliquippa.

Together, we are creating something lasting—an investment in food access, economic development, community pride, and local ownership.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing this exciting journey together.

🫡This Memorial Day, the Aliquippa Food Co-op pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who served our country with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all U.S. veterans and to the families who have carried the weight of service alongside them. Your commitment to protecting our freedoms is a legacy that deserves our respect not just today, but every day.

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors this holiday, may we also take a moment to reflect on those who gave so much for the communities we cherish and the opportunities we enjoy.

From all of us at the Aliquippa Food Co-op, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continued example of strength and patriotism.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

🎉🎉👏🏾👏🏾The Aliquippa Food Co-op recently hosted an inspiring follow-up design session with our architectural partners POH+W, inside the Gene Karmazyn Black Box Theater—continuing the momentum from the students’ impactful field trip to the East End Food Co-op in Pittsburgh (December 2025).

During this session today, Aliquippa students received valuable insight into the importance of Cooperative Principle, Site Selection and how location directly impacts accessibility, community engagement, and the long-term success of a neighborhood food co-op. Most excitingly, the students were given an exclusive sneak peek at an early rough-fit floor plan of the future Aliquippa Food Co-op—helping them visualize what this transformational project could become for their community.

As a powerful show of solidarity and support for the project, the students also autographed the fit-plan rendering, symbolizing their personal connection, excitement, and belief in the future of the Aliquippa Food Co-op. Their signatures represented more than names on paper—they reflected ownership, pride, and a shared commitment to building something meaningful for future generations.

This experience builds upon the partnership between the Aliquippa Food Co-op and YmPact aka Y-Club, empowering local youth to actively participate in shaping the future of their city through leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development. By involving students early in the planning process, we are creating more than a grocery store—we are building ownership, pride, opportunity, and the next generation of community leaders right here in Aliquippa.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Courtney Bingle, Aliquippa School District staff, POH+W Architects (Megan Loney) and YmPact's participation for helping bring this vision & design session together for our youth community..

Help us continue this important work by becoming a member-owner, volunteering, and spreading the word about the Aliquippa Food Co-op. The future is being built together. 🙌🏾🤝

Community Ownership vs. Profit Maximization

Traditional corporate grocery chains are often accountable primarily to shareholders and quarterly earnings. In contrast, the Aliquippa Food Coop would operate as a community-centered cooperative where:

Members and residents have a voice
Decisions are mission-driven
The focus is on food access, affordability, and neighborhood impact

The cooperative structure naturally discourages pricing models that could exploit consumers during times of financial stress.

On April 28, Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed into law the Protection From Predatory Pricing Act, which prohibits price manipulation based on surveillance data. This is the first state to place regulations on dynamic pricing, a strategy used by retailers to alter prices based on consumer personal....

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who make the world softer, stronger, and more beautiful just by being in it.

This day is about more than flowers, cards, or brunches. It’s about the quiet sacrifices no one sees, the late nights, the endless encouragement, the unconditional love, and the way mothers carry so much while still making everyone around them feel safe and cared for.

To every mom, grandmother, stepmom, foster mom, bonus mom, and mother figure — thank you for the love you give so freely. And to those missing their mothers today or carrying complicated emotions, may this day also bring comfort, peace, and cherished memories.

A mother’s love leaves fingerprints on our hearts forever. 💐❤️.

“Food For Thought”. The largest restaurant chain in America isn't McDonald's.

It's public schools ... 95,000 locations, 30 million students, and 7.5 billion meals a year.

The USDA is expected to publish new regulations this spring requiring schools to serve more scratch-cooked food, less sugar, more protein, and fewer ultraprocessed options.

At the same time, it cut $660 million from the program that helped schools buy food from nearby farms.

It distributed zero equipment grants in 2025 after more than a decade of tens of millions per year.

It defunded the Institute of Child Nutrition, which trained school staff to cook fresh meals that kids would actually eat.

You cannot mandate better food without funding the infrastructure to produce it.

You cannot ask schools to scratch-cook without ovens, training, and staff.

You certainly cannot build a healthier generation of children on rhetoric alone.

MAHA says that it wants real food in schools.

The farmers who grow that real food have been defunded.

The programs that trained staff to cook it have been eliminated.

The equipment grants that made scratch cooking physically possible are being zeroed out.

Children's health is not a budget line item to be optimized.

It is the foundation on which everything else is built.

Where does your money actually go after you spend it?
In most businesses profits move up. In a co-op value comes back around in the community.
That’s - Member Economic Participation in action:
▶You contribute
▶You have a say
▶You share in the outcomes
Same transaction. Completely different system and outcome.

Co-op Principle #3
There is a membership fee that one must pay to join a co-op, and this could be paid in installments. With the profits, the members decide how much they get back, how much stays in the business to fund growth and how much is donated to solve community problems.
