There was a building on the avenue in Allen Park sitting empty after a beloved local floral shop closed its doors.

Most people drove past it and kept going. Breanne Buchanan saw something different.

She saw a place where a neighborhood could gather again. So she got to work.

Breanne built Custard on the Avenue from the ground up, turning a dark and empty storefront into a place where kids walk up after school, families stop in after dinner, and neighbors run into each other over a scoop of ice cream. She was hands-on in every part of it. The design of the space. The development of the menu. Every detail carries her fingerprints.

The ice cream itself is something worth talking about. Custard on the Avenue serves frozen custard and hand-scooped ice cream sourced from Calder Dairy Farm, a Michigan dairy with a long tradition of quality. Keeping things local and keeping things close to home was never an afterthought for Breanne. It was the whole point.

But what makes Custard on the Avenue something special is not just the product. It is what happens inside. Watching a kid's face light up after school. A family slowing down for twenty minutes on a Tuesday night. Two neighbors catching up over a cone who might not have crossed paths otherwise. Breanne built a space where those moments happen every single day.

That is what a neighborhood ice cream shop is supposed to be. Allen Park has one of the best.
