The chickens sure know when it’s dinner time for the piggies and are always up for cleaning up their messes!! Swiss is such a delicate little lady when it’s time to eat.

The babies got moved out to the big girl coop today. I was really hoping that a momma hen would take them on, but the 3 that are broody right now (trying to sit on eggs to hatch them and raise them) were not takers tonight. We will try again tomorrow - it’s so much easier to integrate new chicks into the flock with a momma that will protect them from everyone else! Fingers crossed for lots of girls and no boys from this crew - we already have too many roosters as it is!

It’s time to dust off the incubator and start this year’s batch of chicks! Of course we have to hatch some of Poofy Cheeks’ pretty green eggs, and I’m also seeing what comes from the Ermine Ameraucanas that we picked up last year, along with the White Leghorn and tiny Serama for fun.

What I’m most excited for though are those beauties from my friend at White Oak Acres Homestead! She’s been perfecting her Black Copper Marans for several years now, and I can’t wait to start getting some of those dark eggs to my flock! I also couldn’t resist adding in some English Orpingtons that her oldest son raises himself at just 11 years old. Gotta have some of those floofy butt gentle giants in the mix! Stay tuned…cuteness coming in 3 weeks!

Miss Margo had some p**p stuck on her butt and it was covering her vent, to where she wasn’t able to p**p without some effort. So she got a spa day today to help with that. She’s an old lady at almost 8 years old now, and with how much she enjoys her blowdry, I wonder if she does this on purpose these days. 😉 Baths are definitely an outdoor activity when needed in the summer - but at 15* today, we had to bring the fun indoors.

Temps in the double digits means time to get the p**psicles off of the p**p board while we can! Might have busted my p**per scooper, but things are fresh and clean now. Come on spring, we’re ready for you!!

Made some warmed up goodies for the chickens in this nasty cold weather! I had stashed leftover chicken broth in the freezer a few years ago with high protein feed, cracked corn, and black soldier fly larvae mixed in. They come in handy when someone isn’t feeling good, or on miserably cold days like this, so I pulled a few jars out to warm up. Threw in some eggs that had frozen and cracked in the coop (check out the double yolker in the front there!) with the egg shells too. Pop it all in the microwave and you have the chicken version of hot cocoa!

I’ve been quiet since turkey season while we’ve been trying to get caught up on pre winter cleanup and diving straight into gnome season. But as Christmas is quickly approaching, we’ve had enough of a breather to offer custom made gnomes here at on an end of season sale!

These are made of real evergreens, so they need to be kept cool/stay outside. Ours usually last all the way through spring warm up around March/April before turning brown!

We have lots of hat options available - see the numbered pictures for those choices. We are offering our 2ft gnomes for $35, or 3ft for $45.

Any hat option can be done in either size other than the elf hats that are in options 10/11 - those can only be used on the 2ft sizes.

Skirt or tie can be added to any hat option if you choose. Hands will be red for all other than options 2 (pink or blue hands) and 3 (purple hands).

Pickup can be arranged at our house in Allenton, or can meet depending on day/time in Armada, Richmond, or Rochester.

Let us know if you’d like to add one (or more) of these friends for the holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for the support from everyone for my small business this year. You make it possible to continue to raise these birds to live happy, spoiled lives and then feed families every year.

Remember, a fresh turkey will cook faster than store bought, so keep an eye on those birds! I’d love to see how your turkeys turn out if you bought one from us this year!

Friends that are still looking for a turkey for Thanksgiving! A friend of mine that went in on the baby turkey order with me let me know that he has one turkey still available. He is located in Casco for pickup, the turkey that’s available is 19.2 lbs and priced the same at $4/lb. If you are interested, let me know and I can get you in touch with him!
