Ok, so where have I been the last few months. Hope you’re comfy cause this post will be a long one.
I’ve been talking for over a year about some family heath complications, I wasn’t ready to get specific at the time but I think it’s time to fill you all in. After months of odd symptoms, my husband was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2021 and I have since become his full time caregiver. If you’re not familiar with the illness I recommend you look it up, but the very simplified version is that it weakens the muscles until they no longer function and the person can no long eat, breathe, etc.. There is no cure so it is only a matter of time when you receive this is a fatal diagnosis.
Obviously our life was flipped upside down-we were both doing well in work and talking about starting a family, but then all that disappeared. Suddenly we were juggling multiple medical appointments, therapies, and traveling constantly with his family who was trying to make the most of the time he had left to travel like that, most of 2021 we were only home for a few weeks before heading out again. We soon realized that our early 1900’s house in Glens Falls wasn’t going to be able to be made accessible for him and we started house hunting. It was so discouraging, we needed such a specific kind of house to be accessible and everything was just flying off the market as soon as it was listed. That fall we found a nice little house in South Glens Falls, pounced on it, and secured it. Because I had committed to a lot of work for the holiday season we couldn’t move immediately, so in January of 2022 we said goodbye to our first house, with all the hopes and dreams we attached to it, and moved over the bridge.
