Fridays On The Farm: Weekend Edition
In The Bleak Mid Winter β„πŸ“πŸŽΆ

Have you noticed it's getting light out earlier? Our rooster Clive certainly has! We are definitely looking forward to the warm up forecasted for this week. As the temperatures climb into the 40's-50's, I'll be able to look in on the honey bees and their well being. All of the livestock (and farmers) will be grateful for a break from temps in the single digits and teens.

Thanks for visiting us here on the farm. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: To Everything There Is A Season πŸ‚β„β€

Hello from the farm! Hope this finds you well and staying warm. It's been a whirlwind here since we last posted, but things are starting to get back to a more normal pace.
We were able to be together as a family in late October 2024, which was so much fun. It's humbling to see the impact of one couple on this world. Daisy is nearly seven months old, the ewes are starting to look full, and the gardens are napping under a fresh blanket of white. (Snow is better than ice!)
Thanks for visiting us at the farm. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm : Criss Cross Applesauce πŸπŸŽπŸ‡

Happy Autumn! πŸ‚ Despite the lack of rain, grapes and apples are abundant here on the farm. Applesauce and grape juice have been this week's canning ventures. The pie pumpkins and lima beans are also ripening.

Sweet Daisy is already eight weeks old. She remains curious and always ready for a meal. We hopefully await refreshing rain, as our pastures could surely use a good, long drink. Thanks for visiting us on the farm. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Weekend Edition

A big thank you to our steer buyers. We so appreciate that you are supporting a small local farmer! It's good to know your farmer and how your food is produced. The ewes and cattle are grazing, grazing, grazing as they feel a bit of autumn chill in the air. The bull and rams are in fine form.

Daisy is drinking nearly two gallons of her mama's rich milk daily and is growing like a little w**d. We enjoy it's creamy goodness too, and are carving out the time to make cheese once again. The garden is slowing down, but still productive and apples and grapes will soon need to be harvested and processed. We hope you are doing well and taking the time to enjoy the simple things in life!

Thanks for stopping by the farm. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Weekend Edition Life with Daisy

Already four weeks old and growing like a w**d on Penny's rich and creamy Jersey milk, do you ever wonder how a human teaches a calf to graze on grass and hay? Her aunties the ewes taught her. She would watch the sheep and mimic them. She does enjoy halter walks and playing with the Devon calves in "day care", returning to the barn for her evening bottle and sleep.

The garden is still producing like crazy, despite dry conditions and heavy w**d suppression. We harvested our first greenhouse crop of Bolero carrots. Thanks for visiting us on the farm. Come again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Meet Daisy Jane 🌼

Our eleven grandchildren voted with the name Daisy winning over Patsy by one vote. Daisy is doing very well. She is taking her bottles like a champ and has started some simple halter training all in her first week of life. Mama Penny supplies all of her creamy, rich milk while the bottle holder gets the bunts! It will be fun and rewarding watching this curious, agile little gal grow and learn.
Thanks for spending some time with us on the farm. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Weekend Edition

Despite the heat and lack of rain the garden is in full production; therefore, so is canning, freezing, pickling & all things related to food preservation. Medications do seem to be helping farm pup Fionn and Penny blessed us with a heifer calf Saturday morning.

This little gal will have her mama's milk, but it will be bottle fed to her so she will bond to us and be more readily halter trained. The plan is for her to have a long, happy life joining Penny as our second milk cow. She's an A2/A2 polled Devsey and sweet as can be. Now for a name...πŸ€” Thanks for visiting us on the farm. Come again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Dog Days of Summer

It's hard to watch a canine member of the farm be sidelined. Fionn had an abrupt onset of difficulty walking on Tuesday evening. The vet feels he may have a bulging disc in his back and has started him on medication to help relieve his symptoms. Praying he is back to his normal border collie self in short order.
We are on calf watch as Penny begins her final days up to her due date, and who would have guessed this delicious cake is loaded with zucchini? Thanks for visiting us on the farm. Stop by again
soon! πŸ₯’

Fridays On The Farm : Black & Blue

The bright summer sun and intermittent rain are bringing the thornless blackberries on a treat. They are big and juicy this year.

We welcomed Fiona's bull calf this week. The Red Devon breed has soulful brown eyes, but as newborns their eyes are a striking shade of light blue. Move over Frank Sinatra! Thanks for visiting us on the farm this week. Come back again soon!

Fridays On The Farm: Creature Feature πŸ›

This morning was the day the lambs were separated from the ewes for weaning. They will call back and forth to one another from distant pastures for a day or two, then settle into their new flock routines. Sorry neighbors! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

An aphid infestation has us enlisting the help of a young praying mantis in the greenhouse. It's also a joy to see butterfly caterpillars
feasting in the gardens. Our two favorites are the swallowtail and monarchs. We hope you had a wonderful day celebrating our beloved nation, appreciate you stopping by the farm and hope you come back again soon! πŸ§¨πŸŽ†πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Fridays On The Farm: Saturday Edition πŸ«›πŸ…πŸŸ
We are so thankful for the rain and think we heard a sigh of relief from the gardens, pastures and livestock. Despite the heat and dry, we are harvesting peas, zucchini and our first tomatoes of the season. The greenhouse is not only producing food, but is a great place to make sun tea or raise bread dough. :)

Delivering freezer lamb to a good friend resulted in an impromptu fishing trip and the love of my life hits his 65th year milestone this weekend. God is so very good! Thanks for visiting the farm. Come again soon!
