We are already into spring calving season. I consistently hear people complain that they have been contacted by or have contacted people trying to scam people using Highland calves. FB does little to nothing in regards to cutting down on spammers.. I have reported several accounts with 1000s of followers where the GROUP ADMINS were using my calves to scam people. FB never responded to any of my formal complaints. But hey, try to sell a compound bow on marketplace and watch how fast they will suspend your account! Anyway, here are 5 simple things you can do to w**d through some of the lying crooks out there.
1) If you are talking to someone that cannot or will not video chat you regarding their animals, you are more than likely dealing with a fraudster.
2) Are they able to provide you with federal tax documentation showing they are a registered farm business?
3) Can they provide you with the animals DNA test and the associated farm or farmer's name?
4) Address of the farm? Does the address of the farm they provide match the name of the individual you are speaking with?
5) Ask for references. Most farms have shipped or sold cows to individuals in other states than where the cows currently reside.
These are not fool proof security measures, but they should definitely throw up some giant red flags if your contact is hesitant to provide these things to you.
