With nine cultivars, there's lots of beauty to see and aroma to inhale. Sixteen Sprigs is a lavender farm owned and operated by Wynne Wright. I have been boring my friends with lavender dreams and delusions for over two years now, but my flight of fancy is now over and I am a 'real' 'lavande agirculteurise'. Sixteen Sprigs is a

mere baby in the world of lavender farms; it boasts only 630 plants currently made up of 16 varieties of lavender, each selected for their hardiness, beauty, scent, and generosity of oil. While establishing Sixteen Sprigs as a lavender empire is not an immediate threat to the rest of the lavender industry, I do have fun cultivating by day and daydreaming by night how to add value to my growing line of lavender products. Products include fresh and dried lavender bouquets, culinary lavender, soap, lotion, sachets. If you are interested in adding lavender bliss to your life by filling your home with lavender products, give me a ring.

This Week on the Farm..

Yes we're closed for the season. I'm happy for some rest but will miss your smiling faces. To our new friends, thanks for making the effort to find us. To our 'older' supporters, thanks for coming back for years now. Next year I will celebrate my 15th year of farming and my 5th year in Alma so stay tuned...we're working on big plans.

Remember you can always text for a private shopping opportunity or you can visit us Dec 1-6th when we reopen for holiday shopping.

I will be at the farm still quite often, so feel free to stop by if you see my truck. This week we start distillation, after the much needed rain subsides.

Don't forget, we're closed for the season, but you can find us Saturdays at the Meridian Farmers Mkt in Okemos.

What I wish I had known...

I didn't know at the beginning of my lavender journey that some varieties bloom twice...early summer and again in late summer. The Mailette in the photo is a good example. I haven't harvested these yet because I am waiting til the last minute before I distill them...and I'm enjoying a second bloom now. But I will cut them by Sept 1 or 2.

Maybe yours are blooming again now as well. If you want to continue to enjoy that bloom great - do so. But remember, if you don't prune now (or by Sept 1) you can prune in spring.

We're open one more day...come out to the farmstore, to talk lavender, or just to inhale. While the bloom is dwindling in the fields...the aroma lingers.

What can you do with all the lavender you harvested from your plants?

Take our lead...start by drying some and...
1. Make fragrant sachets for bureaus or closets (or car, or gym bag).
2. If culinary, infuse in salt, pepper, sugar or olive oil.
3. Make lovely bouquets to put in your home.
4. Infuse in a carrier oil for your skin such as jojoba or sweet almond oil.
5. Mix with other aromatics to make a fragrant potpourri...and that's just for starters...

Or come Wed- Sat 11-4 to see what we did wirh ours.
