This morning I got up at 6:00 like I always do, took care of the birds then got my youngest off on the bus and said bye to my son who was headed to the university. My daughter texted me from the bus and said there was a wreck right outside our neighborhood and about 10 minutes later my son called me. I didn't even put it together until he said, "Mom, I had a wreck". Any parent who has teens and/or young adult children will know and understand that feeling. It is so incredibly hard to let your heart go out into the world and not be able to protect them anymore. 😔 He was just driving down the main highway when a car came flying out of a side street and straight into the highway and t-boned him. The air bags deployed and his car is totaled and I am so incredibly thankful, more than I can put into words, that he is okay. This is the 2nd time the boy has totaled a car through no fault of his own and we are so incredibly lucky that he was not injured either time. And God bless the sweet Cracker Barrel employee who stopped to check on him and stayed with him until the police got there, she is an angel. ❤️

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I know I have been MIA for a bit, just been very busy. We celebrated my daughter's big 13th over the weekend and went to an absolutely amazing concert! It was a tribute band that covered all of the classic rock greats. 😎 If you haven't noticed I love classic rock and I really love rock concerts! It can't be chickens 24/7, lol.

We had some very nasty storms last night and at least one tornado warning. Everyone here is fine, we just have a neighbor's tree in our yard and it took out my partridge pen, again. 🙄 They are fine, just had a flooded coop this morning and I will have to order more fence panels for them. And my youngest got a day off school because all the schools are without power today. Somehow, despite our power flickering many times, it managed to stay on.

I was outside just bebopping to my tunes while getting the chickens up for the night when hubby asks me a question and as soon as I opened my mouth a bug flew in and straight down my throat. 🥴 And that wasn't even the first time that had happened! I am grateful for my headlamp but I am learning that I better keep my mouth shut when I'm outside this time of year because the bugs also love my headlamp. 😂 But hey, it's just a little extra protein, right?? Just out of curiosity, how many bugs have you swallowed so far this year? 🤪

This will very likely be my last hatch for the year and all of these babies will go to the September farm swap. I just checked them yesterday and all 22 eggs were fertile, just 2 stopped developing so if you have ever considered getting hatching eggs from me my fertility rates are excellent!

Making sure you have roosters that are safe and gentle enough to trust with even the little babies just makes life so much easier. I don't keep or breed mean roosters because it absolutely passes on to their babies. I do give young, hormonal roosters some grace, and sometimes a little discipline 😅, and they usually settle down as they mature.
