Maybe this is a controversial topic, I hope it isn't but this is the Silkie world 🤪. I recently read someone claiming that you cannot breed SOP show quality birds just by taking 2 (or more) lines from other breeders and putting them together. This person seems to think it's actually irresponsible to do this instead of paying the big money for "perfect" birds. I beg to differ but wonder what everyone else thinks about this? I very much am still working on my line even after 6 years but I can say that I started with birds from a breeder who has nice birds but isn't strict about breeding and SOP standards. I am nowhere near where I want to be but I have most definitely improved on my line and am halfway there. I take more pride in putting in the time and work rather than buying the high priced birds and playing them off as my own. What do you all think?

Funny story, I had all my windows open a couple of days ago because the weather has been glorious. I was getting ready to practice my flute and several of my birds were outside my window. I told them I was going to serenade them, or at least that's what I meant to say but instead I told them I was going to marinate them. 😂 Good thing they don't know what either of those words mean. 🤪

Good morning friends! We were up before dawn to take care of the animals and get ready so we could drive a couple of our teens to a college tour. They have decided they want to attend my alma mater,. Western Kentucky University 😀. I have not been back to WKU since I graduated around 23 years ago. 😝 I'm looking forward to seeing the campus again, it was one of the happiest times of my life. 🥰

My mental health this year has been in the gutter way too often and this seemed like a good time for me to get back to my first love (with a little help from some very cute buddies). ❤️ It's so easy as a wife, mother, and chicken wrangler to lose who you were before life got in the way. I started playing flute in 4th or 5th grade and began private lessons when I was 14. I went on to major in music on flute in college. The flute I am playing is one I bought myself at 16 and she has been my close companion ever since. I once was so good that I made 2nd chair in my college band and had the opportunity to perform a couple of times in the Bowling Green Symphony Orchestra which was a great honor and an experience I have never forgotten. 🥰Now my daughter is playing and I plan on passing my flute onto her and getting a much awaited upgrade for myself. And this has a lot of meaning and sentiment because my flute once belonged to my beloved flute teacher. ❤️
