I searched for a couple of years to find this dahlia tuber called Kalgai Ann. I was able to finally find it last year and I was so disappointed with the blooms as they weren’t anything like the pictures. This tuber apparently was left in the ground over the winter and was one of my surprises that came up this year and oh, my! She is so lovely! She does have thin and somewhat delicate stems and sometimes her head will pop off, but even with all that this pretty waterlily formed dahlia is what brings joy to my world!

I was quite late in getting all my flowers in the ground, so it’s gratifying to see how many blooms are available. 💐

Last year we planted a meadow and the amazing flowers and grasses have been awesome to see this year. In amongst the meadow are huge clumps of milkweed which I inspect regularly for monarchs or caterpillars to no avail. In my front yard landscape area a few milkweed have popped up and they don’t ever seem to flower, but it didn’t deter my first witnessed caterpillar from stopping to munch! I was beyond excited as the purpose of the meadow is to feed pollinators 🦋🐛🐝🐜🪰
