Athia, the chef behind Khan’s Kitchen, is entirely self-taught. Every recipe here was created and crafted by her, out of her love and passion for food and culture.
That love has been part of her journey as an immigrant. She brought everything with her to America and held it sacred, through the years of becoming a wife and a mom to five beautiful daughters. Here in the US, every time she missed her home in Bangalore, she recreated it in her own kitchen, filling it with the smells of the food she grew up eating and celebrating with family and friends.
It all started in her mother’s kitchen. Her mother was an excellent cook, always warm, always inviting people to her dinner table. Those tables were full of food, and just as full of laughter and stories. The memories Athia made there, and the bond she built cooking beside her mother, are where her love of food began.
It hasn’t been an easy journey. Life and business have had their ups and downs. Through all of it, Athia gives her whole self to the work every day with determination and passion. She wants to be the inspiration for her daughters, so they carry that same energy through life and never put limits on how big they dream or how far they grow.
This week, Khabar told her story. Thank you Sucheta Rawal for sitting with Athia, listening, and writing it with so much heart. Thank you to her daughters, who work alongside her, and to the family, friends and team who have stood by her through this journey. And to everyone who has walked through our doors: you’ve been part of this story from the first plate.
Come sit at her table. Nobody leaves hungry.
