We're so grateful for the many ways Cheshire County Conservation District supports farms and farmers in our region-- we've been direct beneficiaries of CCCD grants, outreach, training, and tools, including renting their no-till seed drill to reseed our pastures a few days ago! Perfect timing before the gentle spring rain.

Help us to support food for all! We're proud to grow food that feeds our neighbors. This year, we've partnered with the Cheshire County Conservation District to provide increased access to our farm's veggies, dairy, and eggs.

Do you celebrate Tomatomas?
In our household, we celebrate the festivals of First and Last Tomato with a BLT. Goodbye to the last window-ripened fruit! We paired it with our farm's buttermilk biscuits, thick cut bacon, frisée, and a sunny egg. Snow flurries outside, minus 10 yesterday; tomato season is officially over.

We're a family farm, and the farm kids work and play alongside us as valued members of our team. Most of this photographer's images feature the kids, whose identities and innocence we want to shield from internet consumption. But photos of lettuce don't speak volumes, as this one does. Here's our neighbor, whose family tended this land we're on for generations. Her bee hive is situated underneath the oldest apple tree on the farm. The children have toast as their afterschool treat, with our butter and honey from the bees. Richness. Sweetness. Farm life.

The US drought monitor reports that Cheshire County is in moderate drought conditions. I can report that our agricultural well has been dry for the last month. We are hauling water from the boat launch at our local pond in order to water our animals and irrigate our crops. I was recently met by a summer lakefront resident who wanted to know who had given me permission to steal her water.

Our farm is at the top of the hill. When it does rain, the water flows down into both the Ashuelot and Cold Rivers. The state gives me the right to withdraw up and transport up to 20,000 gallons a day without registering my use. I don't come close to that-- I can fit 400 gallons in my portable tanks. Water is a part of the commons. We all need it. We all steward it, use it, and share it.

Report your drought observations to help document impacts! https://droughtimpacts.unl.edu/Tools/ConditionMonitoringObservations.aspx
