Final Words...My toxic trait is really wordy writing, Doug loves that about me ;) So if you're tired of hearing from me feel free to scroll on past and no hard feelings. 😛
We got in the truck last night after everything was turned off and locked up and 311 was on the radio playing Beautiful Disaster and we both just chuckled. Just seemed so fitting at that moment. lol!
My father had a vision and made it a reality. My husband, ever the optimist, grew it into what we all came to love. And while there are so many questions and theories as to why we made the decision to close despite the overwhelming support of the community, it really is as simple as I stated in my original post. Consistent sales but rising costs over time equals negative $. Were there other challenges we contended with along the way? Uh, obviously. It's never one thing in this restaurant world. It's one thing, then another, then another, then another. We dealt with all of it. But at the end of the day, the costs were what drove the last nail in. We built this business with the determination to provide quality. Compromising that quality we promised or driving up our prices to that in line with our increases was never something we were comfortable with. Some may have been fine with it but most wouldn't have. It wasn't the right thing for us and doing the right thing is never the wrong thing in my opinion.
As for this past week, oof, where do I begin? The LOVE that we have felt this past week is like nothing we have ever experienced or even remotely anticipated. I joked to several people it was like being at our own funeral. We did more closing week than we did our opening week which is mind blowing to me. We expected to be busy but y'all! We ran out of food a whole day and change early. I want to say thank you for the umpteenth time to each and every one of you. We're so proud to have gained your admiration and respect through this journey and also feel so guilty and maybe a little embarrassed we couldn't make it work. My hope is the "next guy" will be just as great or greater for this town!
Doug and I want to give a special shot out to our staff. Chris, Jackie, Ty, Cassie, Kenzie, Kamal, David, Jon, and Megan. When given the freedom to not stick around for the final days if they chose not to, every single one of them stayed and endured the busiest we've ever been. They were all so exhausted last night but stayed until the last dish was washed and last piece of floor was mopped. Now those are some amazing people. We wish them all nothing but the best in their next chapters.
As for our future, we are reading the comments and hearing the suggestions. We’re so grateful to everyone who took the time out to do so. We don’t have a plan for the moment but will keep looking forward and trusting God in his plans for us. You know I’ll be right back on here if I’ve got news! Love you Dad, Sandy, and Mom. Doug, the kids and I are immensely proud of you. Job well done my love. Maybe grab a powerball ticket on your way home and problem solved! 😂
It was beautiful day today. Hung out on the patio, had a couple cold ones, said see you later to two of our faves who just took the chance that we would be around.
Love you all, keep us in your prayers and please go support small business! We’ll see you around town. 😘😘 ❤️, Monica
