Here are a few shots from the aerial applicator applying fungicide to our corn fields. Fungicide is used to stop and prevent the spread of common corn diseases such as Grey Leaf Spot and Northern Corn Leaf Blight. Diseases can reduce overall yield potential and spraying a fungicide helps to limit those losses. Modern aerial applicators are equipped with GPS and automatic controls to limit off target application. The plane is applying a total of 2 gallons per acre, 10 oz of which is the actual fungicide. So in an 80 acre field, which is a quarter mile by half mile, 6.25 gallons of fungicide are spread across the area. It is a precision application and very effective in controlling disease.

Corn pollination is nearing on our earliest planted corn. At this stage maximum yield potential is determined. Corn at this stage is using around 0.3" of water per day. From this point forward, the weather will either keep or reduce our overall yield potential.
