Bourbon and Ch*****ne have more in common than you might think.
Large bourbon producers have thousands—sometimes millions—of barrels to choose from. Their master blenders can combine barrels to create a consistent flavor profile year after year.
The large Ch*****ne houses do something similar. They blend w**es from different vineyards, parcels and vintages, often using extensive reserves, to maintain their recognizable “house style.”
That kind of consistency takes incredible skill.
But sometimes we prefer small batch over large blends.
It’s one reason we enjoy smaller bourbon distilleries like
Wh***ey Thief Distilling Co. and
Boundary Oak Distillery—and why we chose Ch*****ne A. Levasseur as our Ch*****ne producer at DellaVino.
With smaller producers, we’re not necessarily looking for every bottle to taste exactly like the last one.
We want to taste the vintage, the vineyard, the barrel, the decisions of the person who made it, and, we love the stories behind each barrel and bottle.
Large producers are incredibly good at creating consistency and there’s absolutely a place for that, especially when you’re buying a bottle because you know exactly what you want it to taste like.
Small producers can give you something different: character, individuality and a sense of place.
For us, that’s where it gets interesting.
