Come out and fill your freezer with soy-free, pasture-raised chickens and turkeys.

Also, now is a great time to prep your garden for next year. We have compost that you can put around your perennials to get a jump start on next spring. We carry a great fertilizer called HyBrix Berry to put around your fruit trees once they are in dormancy.

I’m taking advantage of the wonderful weather to work outside and enjoy my fall flowers all at the same time.

We raise the animals the way you would, with love and care. No questionable vaccines, no hormones, pesticides, or herbicides. So all you have to worry about is what to make for supper.

Only a little freezer room? We have all the cuts you would want, like pork chops in packages of two. Bacon, sausage, ribs, and roasts are just some of the cuts we sell.

Do you have a big freezer? Save money with a whole or half pig, cut the way you want.

My native New England Aster is starting to bloom. The monarchs are taking advantage of the blooms. It is very tall about 5 feet but I love it for a background.

It blooms August through October but mine is just starting to bloom. It can be aggressive and could overwhelm small areas. I do have volunteers coming up which I don’t mind.

Should we grow this again or is it just too tall?

September is just a few weeks away. If you have been thinking of dividing your perennials or you still need to plant, now is the time. Planting now gives your newly transplanted or split perennials time to get established so they have a chance to survive the winter.

If you have perennials that are in need of dividing, it is recommended that you divide all the spring/summer bloomers in the fall. And all your fall bloomers should be divided in the spring. This gives the plants time to establish, and you still get to enjoy all the blooms.

But as with anything, sometimes you just have to divide when you have the time, and that'll work too!

With that in mind, this will be the last week to buy perennials at 25% off. We do not have a very big selection left.

If you like bumblebees, the Anise Hyssop is gorgeous and always has bumblebees on the cute little purple flowers. They would make a great addition to any pollinator garden.

One of my favorite jobs is moving the cows into a fresh pasture. This week I was able to help make the fence. I got the easy job of driving the Ranger, but even if I don't get the easy job, I enjoy it. I like to stop and watch the butterflies and bees on the red clover. Yesterday I found a monarch caterpillar on a milkweed plant.

We do have weeds in the pasture, but most of the weeds the cows will eat, so we do not consider them weeds. Because of the diversity of plants, we have such a variety of different insects on our farm. From the Monarch butterfly at all life stages, butterflies the size of a dime, white, yellow, and orange butterflies. The Rusty Patch Bumblebee, many other bumblebees of all sizes. And then you have the gross but important spiders. Dung beetles and many other beetles well, I think you get the picture; there is a lot of diversity.

Not only do you support a small family farm, the local economy, but you also get to help provide a healthy ecosystem when you purchase meat from us. Not only does the wildlife benefit from the diversity, but you do as well. Because of the diversity of plants that provide many different vitamins and minerals, which are consumed by our animals and made into meat, makes it taste better and is healthier for you.

Come out tomorrow and try some delicious meat. We are open from 4-6 and support a thriving ecosystem. Choose from easy-to-make hot dogs and brats; for the grill master, we have pork chops and ribs, and burgers or roasts for the slow cooker.

Over the last two weeks we have been harvesting our Winter Wheat, Rye, and Triticale. This is what we feed to our pigs, chickens, and turkeys.

Right now we are working on harvesting the straw for bedding the pigs.
