Good evening all.
Snow left a bit today. Main roads much better Stay safe. I know of two people who fell on the ice today
Seems to be slick as it slowly disappears.

We had something strange happen today. Our weather monitor showed a strange number when I got home and looked at it. It records the daily high and low. Check out that high in picture.

I have some theories on what happened but will not bore you unless someone requests them.

If you want to hear our theories, let us know.

Here it is several days in to this winter event.

We turned Christmas lights back on thinking we would leave them on till the snow was gone.

Maybe a silly thought as we still have lights on. They may be on longer now than at Christmas.

Well winter has hit us finally.

We still had some outdoor lights out we have not pulled down. So, I thought we would turn them on during the snow since Christmas was in the 70’s for temps. Kind of a late blessing.

Picture not clear but maybe will brighten a spirit or so.

Our Neighbors little one enjoyed the lights in the snow.

Weather, as always, is on my mind.
We need winter to return, after being non-existant so far but also know the consequences of an event we may be facing. The grapes and other fruits need this. Our Livestock growers not so much .

Take care of your property. We actually need a hard winter every year from a growers perspective.

So tonight our farm has a flower.
One may wonder why that is a big deal. Well, Janet got a cutting from her cousin years ago. It is a plant that blooms once a year, and as I understand at night. Maybe a night blooming…. Yep i dont even know what it is called.
She took her cutting plant and it grew to be huge….5-6 foot tall,pretty and green but never a bloom…Too healthy im guesstimating.
This last winter we put it in a storage building with heat and artificial light and it died back to almost nothing. She salvaged the last green bit and lo and behold this sick looking little plant finally bloomed. So maybe a lesson, learn your plants!!
Congrats to her on her success!!
Sometimes you get rewards out of your perseverance. That flower to her is like a bumper crop of grapes to me.
Damn, she might finally make a grape grower. We do that five to six year investment all the time and hers paid off!
By the way, it has just bloomed and this is her baby and we are on a watch party to see what the night brings when it is in full bloom. As i understand, this flower will expand out flat with a unique fragrance. It will have run its flower life by morning. What a celebration for her!

I sit here tonight thinking I have waited to post about the last several days.
We were awakened by a hail storm pounding the house this weekend.
After a couple minutes I got out of bed to see what the outside looked like. Pretty much, a fruit growers worst nightmare. Hail as large as ping pong ball sized and the ground was covered almost white with chunks of ice Actually a nightmare for everyone with their houses, vehicles etc.
It takes a few days or even months to gauge the loss. We still have green shoots in the vineyards but many were stripped of the bunches.
They may be green but without the bunches, well, you are looking at next year for a harvest. The green now is maybe 50% what it was last week

I have no thought as to what production will be this year but we already lost a significant amount of it. And, we are about four months from harvest. All that time to play with Mother Nature. She has a good game! Usually in her favor.

If you are wanting grapes, we have always gone on a first request, first person served.
