We are sorry to report that Dohmann Pecan Farms will not have any pecans in 2017.
The crop was looking quite promising until Hurricane Harvey paid us a visit. Our primary farm is located near Columbus, TX which received over 20" of rain causing the worst flooding of the Colorado River in over 100 years. The river crested at 50.2 feet, just short of the 1913 record of 51.6 feet.
Many homes & businesses were flooded in and around the city of Columbus. Our pecan orchard is on rolling terrain near the river and water was 4' deep in places and as much as 12' deep in others. Our mobile home & travel trailer, located about 100 yards from the river and about 15 feet higher than the river flood stage both had 14" of water inside them. Both are ruined. Both of our tractors were submerged in water 4' deep - just below the seats of the tractors. Both should be salvageable, but will take some time. All of our other equipment was also flooded, tossed around, and washed off to other parts of our property. It will take some time to gather it all up & see what can be salvaged & what is lost.
We are fortunate that this is just a sideline business for us and is not our primary residence or business. Please keep all those who did lose their homes & businesses in your thoughts & prayers.
Thanks for your interest & support. We hope to have better news in 2018.
