This is a big update... one I've been struggling to write for a long time. I'm not usually at a shortage for words, but this time I am...
After 3 1/2 years of trying to make life on our little farm work, we have to accept a reality that not many people talk about. Sometimes, things just don't work. We love North Dakota, we love the people there that we've come to know and count as friends. But due to a number of personal reasons, we just can't continue on the property.
This has felt like a big failure to me and something I haven't even been able to really talk about or acknowledge. Social media is full of people who move to farms and look completely successful. But the truth is, sometimes the dream you think you want isn't the dream that's right for you. Sometimes, things happen that are completely out of your control, and it changes what you need and what will work for your life moving forward. I've felt so much sadness and even some shame that this hasn't worked out, but I've reached a point of acceptance. The farm wasn't God's ultimate plan for us, but it served its purpose for a season. Now it's time to accept that it is OK and healthy to let go of things that aren't working for us, and to move towards a life that better fits our needs.
So, we are moving to Amarillo, to be near our daughter and grandbaby. Our son is coming with us. We are so excited to be by our kids and to watch our little grandson grow up - seeing him grow is just time and memories that we can never replace.
I'm already here actually, I've started a job in the Emergency Room in town that I just love, and it's giving us better healthcare coverage than we've had in a LONG time... which is a big deal for us. We will continue our laser engraving business as well, and are praying that God will help us get our property sold and find the right place here in Texas.
Decisions like this are hard because it can feel a lot like giving up. But the truth is, sometimes, the real bravery and courage is knowing when to hit that reset button. For the people in our lives who understand this, who have offered support, understanding and encouragement... thank you. It means more than you know.
Lastly, If a beautiful little farm on the prairie is YOUR dream, please take a look at ours - there's still work to be done, but we've made a ton of improvements and we would love to see someone buy it who can love it like we have.
