In the Old English epic Beowulf, King Hrothgar builds Heorot, the greatest mead-hall in the land, a place for feasting, gift-giving, and passing the mead cup. Queen Wealhtheow herself carried the cup to the warriors, a sign of honor and welcome. The joyful noise of that hall was so loud it enraged the monster Grendel, setting the whole story in motion. Raise a glass of Mealod, our Nordic-inspired juniper mead, worthy of any mead-hall.

Partner Spotlight: Old Tascosa Brewing Company and Yellow City C***r

Friends of the Happy Half-Orc, we are excited to continue our Partner Spotlight series. This week we are shining the light on two Amarillo favorites that already pour and carry Happy Half-Orc Mead, Old Tascosa Brewing Company and Yellow City C***r.

Both are local, independent, and serious about what goes in the glass, which makes them a natural home for our mead. They will also soon be the temporary home of Mercy, our new pineapple mead with green chili. It starts sweet and tropical, then a slow, friendly heat builds and keeps you coming back for another sip. Mercy will be a limited release, on tap only at these two locations, and the release date is coming soon.

Go visit them. Tell them the Happy Half-Orcs sent you, grab some of our mead while you are there, and support local.

Mead Fact Monday: In Norse myth, the warriors of Valhalla never ran dry. A goat named Heiðrún stood on the roof of Odin's hall, grazing on the leaves of the tree Læraðr, and from her udders flowed mead instead of milk. According to the Prose Edda, she filled a vat every day, large enough for every fallen warrior to drink their fill.

We cannot promise a bottomless vat, but our Mealod, a juniper mead inspired by the North, is the next best thing.

Happy Half-Orc Meadery will appear at Puck’s Awakening Renaissance Faire on Saturday, October 10, at Fritch Community Park. This faire stop is crafts only. Look for our woodworks, leather goods, and drinking horns. We will not be selling alcohol at this event.

Whether you are in costume or just out for a day at the faire, stop by, say hello, and take home something handmade from the Half-Orcs.

Partner Spotlight: Week 12 – Fast Eddie's Amarillo

Friends of the Happy Half-Orc, we are excited to continue our Partner Spotlight series. Every week we highlight one of our great local partners who carry Happy Half-Orc Meadery.

This week we spotlight Fast Eddie's Amarillo. Located in Wellington Square, this is a pool hall and social club with 23 eight-foot tables, two nine-foot tables, darts, and a kitchen, a place built for a game, a cold drink, and good company. We are proud to have our mead among the bottles there.

Whether you are chalking up for a match, catching happy hour, or just looking for a place to unwind, Fast Eddie's is a solid local option for Happy Half-Orc Mead.

Metheglin is mead brewed with herbs and spices. The name comes from Welsh for healing liquor, from when spiced honey drinks were treated as medicine as much as celebration. Classic additions include cloves, cinnamon, and orange peel. Our Destiny carries that tradition, a semi-sweet metheglin at 13% ABV.
