Our Story

Two cousins grew up together in Lee County, Illinois. One lived on a farm and the other lived in town, both in the community where several generations of their ancestors had made their home. One of the cousins took up an interest in craft beer and home brewing. One fateful evening in August 2016, he approached his cousin about growing hops in northwestern Illinois to support the burgeoning craft beer market. There was some hesitation. There was further discussion. But eventually, there was action. On a warm April day in 2017, some of the electrical poles that once stood over their towns for generations and along the highways and country roads that connected them became the framework for their hop yard. These electrical poles symbolize their shared roots in the community and their journey to successfully growing hops in northwestern Illinois. Our mission is to help local craft brewers make great beer by providing them with flavors and aromas unique to the land of our ancestors, northern Illinois. We believe that local beer is not only locally brewed but locally sourced and used as a means to strengthen the community around it.
