Galena wrapped up kidding season with doe/buck twins on May 10th. These are kids sired by Glow and, just like the others he's sired, they're gorgeous.

Final Kid count:
10 Bucks / 6 Does
Definitely a "buck year" for us

Most available have already been rehomed, although there's a couple kids I still need to decide on after I watch them for a bit longer and a possible doe and dry yearling available as well.

Working hard to maintain "net zero" this year to maintain sanity. ;-)

I've been slowly picking away at replacing some inadequate fencing in the boys' area that came with the place.
Now that phase 1 is done and secure, they are happy guys to get back out on their extra pasture.

I have never milk trained a more skittish and scared goat. She has pushed my patience and outside-of-the-box thinking.
The reward of her coming out this morning on her own and now trusting/liking me enough to give me kisses - is HUGE!
She went from being absolutely terrified, unable to catch or lead at all to, through positive reinforcement (and cookies! 😉), calling for me, coming up to me, starting to be able to lead, and giving me kisses.
It's baby steps with this one, next up will be going back to trying to introduce the milk stanchion after we get a few more solid days of trust under our belt.

Miss Maggie (Fruition Acres Gentle Magnolia) kept us on our toes for this one! She needed some assistance getting this XL girl out as she was attempting to come out butt & hocks first and wasn't budging. Thankfully both seem to be doing well.

With Maggie's age getting up there this very well may be her last kidding and I'm just thrilled to have this little girl sired by MDNT WK Everglow.

Between Glow and Maggie this little one got all the ears and the sweetest calm demeanor.

Chocolate: to ease the pain of the hard times.
The chocolate is delicious and these happen to be a springtime fave! But the sweetness of a friend thinking of you... that is what helps us get through the hard times. 💖

Today did not go as planned.
Clarion went into labor, 24 days early. She gave birth to 3 beautiful little boys, sired by my buck Freddie. This was a repeat breeding I looked forward to keeping a doeling out of this time.
The universe had other plans.
These babies were very premature and their lungs do most their development in the last 30 days of gestation. The first two were DOA. The third, he survived, for 6 hours before passing in my arms.
We did everything we knew how - administered medicine to help with the under-developed lungs, water baths and heaters to keep his core temperature where it needed to be, and tube fed when he didn't quite know how to suckle.
I named him. I tried not to get attached or too hopeful, but it's hard not to be invested when you're fighting for their life. Sadly, he just didn't make it. Rest in Peace little Lucien.

It has become quite a bit more expensive to test the whole herd, but we remain committed to it.
Receiving the final report, never gets old.
Year after year - negative tests for all breeding stock over a year old. 🥰🙌

Rest in peace Deuteronomy, aka "Dude".
You were a good boy and will be sorely missed. You had such a sweet and special bond with from the moment you chose him when we arrived at to select our first llama almost 10 years ago.
Your age was a guesstimate - somewhere between 16 and 18ish. You were loved and lived a good life.
