Iowa Learning Farms, in partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will host a cover crop field day on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kielkopf Farm near Fremont.

This field day aims to equip attendees with best management practices for establishing and managing cover crops to maintain yields during the transition to a higher residue system of no-tillage and cover crops.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced today that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is again offering Choose Iowa Marketing and Promotion grants for 2023.

The program matches up to $25,000 per project to help farmers, businesses, and non-profits increase or diversify their agricultural product offerings.

Meet Maury Wills, an owner of the Wills Family Orchard in Adel, Iowa! In this interview, Maury talks about their 62-acre, diverse farm. They grow apples, pumpkins, strawberries, peaches, and a variety of other products! He discusses how the farm started as an Apple Orchard but grew into more when a couple of customers noticed the pumpkins they were growing in their personal garden! They saw the opportunity to grow more produce and their farm expanded the following year! Maury explains the benefits of having a diverse farm, the farmโ€™s conservation practices, and more!

Another stop on our Exploring Iowa Agritourism Adventures Bus tour was Cut flower farm Iowa!

Meet Cheri and Ross Sorensen! They are the owners of Iowa Flower Farm located in Maxwell, Iowa. In this interview, we learn how their Flower Farm started and all of the different types of flowers they have on their farm. They also discuss with us the agritourism opportunities, how stock supply has changed within storefronts with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the benefits of diversifying, the โ€œyou pickโ€ experience they offer, facial creams theyโ€™ve been able to create using their farm-grown flowers, and much more.
