For the past eight years Nature Road Farm CSA been fortunate to have excellent, loyal customers. We enjoyed growing and delivering the best quality produce possible for 15 weeks every summer and training several excellent students on CSA fruit and vegetable production and marketing. However, after a lot of thought, we have decided it is time to try something different - RETIREMENT!! Although we are not hanging up our hoes enitirely, we realized we need more time to visit family and enjoy summer activites at this time in our lives. We are encouraging our CSA members to check out other CSA's in the area and patronize their local farmers markets for fresh, locally grown produce. Thanks, again, to our customers/friends for supporting Nature Road Farm and our Iowa local food system.

We made a friend at the farm yesterday! Wildlife is always something interesting to deal with at the farm, but this case was not too difficult to handle. We simply had to guide this goose out the front gate. I wish we could have gotten a video for everyone to see. It was pretty comical to watch!

With last week's warm weather, the whole team decided to take a little break to educate ourselves at a field day that took place at the Berry Patch Farm in Nevada, Iowa. This field day was put on by the Practical Farmers of Iowa. Both of these organisations have pages, so go look them up! Website information for both can be found below.

We were back at the Berry Patch Farm in Nevada, IA this morning picking delicious blueberries for this week's CSA delivery. The blueberries are plentiful this year and easy picking! Once again, these local berries can't be beat for flavor.

Picking strawberries at the Berry Patch Farm this morning in Nevada Iowa for our Monday CSA deliveries. It doesn't get much fresher than that! The berries are beautiful, delicious, and plentiful this year. We will be picking lots more for Wednesday and Thursday deliveries.

We have had a few unusual, uninvited guests at the farm this year ... hen and rooster pheasants and a Canadian goose that didn't realize it could fly out of the fenced in field .... just like it came in. It was a real "goose chase" to get it out!

It is an exciting time of year as we go through the seed catalogs with pages of beautiful photos of veggies ... it makes us forget the snow and cold for a few minutes!
We are in the midst of making plans and ordering seeds and plants for the upcoming season. We are considering adding two extra weeks to the delivery season this year ... start one week earlier and end one week later. Current customers - please let us know you thoughts on this by sending Randy an email.
CSA registrations will be starting in a couple weeks. Please feel free to share our contact information with others who may be interested in weekly deliveries of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the summer.
