The space is really beautiful. The owners basically stripped the old All American Tavern down to the studs and then rebuilt the space in the tradition of a Texas smokehouse. Two large patio spaces (one screened in to protect you from those pesky Salisbury Greenheads!) and plenty of seating inside as well. Most TX bbq joints donโt have a traditional bar seating and Smoke continues this tradition. A service bar and table servers are there to make sure you can enjoy a PBR or one of their amazing craft cocktails!
When you enter the front door, the first thing youโll see is a to-go window. Super convenient if you want to call in your order, or just grab some bbq to-go. Next is the menu before you step in to the market style setup for ordering. Order your sides, then on to the show! โMeat Cuttersโ are ready to take your protein order and cut to your preference. Pay for your meal then grab a table and dig in!
But how about the food?!? First of all, these guys arenโt new to BBQ. With Texas BBQ roots and in Peabody under their ownership, they know what theyโre doing. The focus on TX style means prime brisket, seasoned with salt and pepper and smoked over post oak. Iโm a fatty (point) brisket fan and these thick slices were moist, with a beautiful bark and tasted like brisket should taste. Pork ribs, sweet pork belly burnt ends (not TX, but these days you gotta have โem!), jalapeรฑo cheddar sausages, perfectly smoke turkey (I know, but get the damn turkey) and of course, the โDino Ribsโ are my other favs.ย
Sidesโฆman I love sides at a bbq joint. My favs were the creamed corn (fโn amazing), cucumber and tomato salad, and the potato salad. And Iโm not a dessert guy, but the Banana Pudding is money!
Last but not leastโฆhow lucky are we in the North Shore if youโre a BBQ fan? Weโre soon to have four bbq restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive! joins a MA favorite in the in Byfield, and in Amesbury (inside BareWolf Brewing). Plus, in the August timeframe, Amesbury will welcome to round out four amazing, yet very different, BBQ joints!
