Caravel Farm LLC A small family farm located in Amesville, Ohio, specializing in poultry. And farm fresh eggs from our flock of free range chickens!

We sell pasture raised meat chickens several times a year as well as pasture raised turkeys for Thanskgiving. We originally bought our farm for the land, pond, and an area for horses. Little did we know that we would soon find a passion for raising our own food. We are still learning, but are having a good time doing so. Been considering a (somewhat) new venture this year… selling Muscovy duck for meat. This is a meat that we raised many years ago and I really enjoyed but stopped when I felt I didn’t have the right set up. Muscovy meat is not like other duck meat… it is lean, some may say slightly gamey, but also I most frequently hear it described as similar to roast beef (I agree). Legs are dark meat and the breast is what has that beefy taste.

One of the things I like most about them is that once I buy the starter flock I can raise them on my own from egg to processing without having to rely on hatcheries to ship babies every year. They are good layers and even better moms.

Would anyone be interested in trying these? They would likely be available in fall as I won’t start until after the busyness of spring is over. There will be a limited number the first year. Also - at present they will be skinned as I haven’t yet found anyone to pluck duck (harder than chickens!) - but I am getting closer to possibly beginning to do that myself in the next few years.

Hi Everyone! It’s that time where I’m getting chicken orders together!

Spring chickens will be done mid/late May and we will continue this year with doing a fall batch that will be done mid/late October as well. Price *should* be close to the same as last year, however I haven’t completely priced feed out yet and a couple new fees were added to shipping last year so I don’t have the exact price. If it goes up it won’t be by much (and I should know soon what the exact number will be).
