Pigs are down to their last six weeks and they’re looking good. Last week we started mixing some of the barley we grew into their feed.

Meet Eleanor 💕

Born yesterday, 08/22/2026. Ginger and Ellie are both doing great!

Thor, our bull, threw ALL girls this year! 💕🐂 He must be pretty proud of his little herd of ladies.

Finally got some much needed rain! Prior to today, we’ve only gotten 1.4” since July 1st. Probably the worst drought I can remember. Every storm seemed to just miss us (Stevens Point, only 15 miles away, has gotten almost 4” in that same time period). The pasture is burned up pretty good but should bounce back. Beans should do okay yet. Some of the corn on the hills is beyond help but the stuff on the low ground should still do okay.

Meet Martha 💕

Last night went a little something like this…

Dress shoes, dancing, and raising a glass to the newlyweds. Congratulations to the Lepinski’s 🥂

Then, just a few hours later, we traded the dress shoes for farm boots and welcomed Lindy’s sweet new heifer calf into the world. 🐄💕

Because apparently, the farm didn’t get the memo that we had plans. 😂 There’s no such thing as a day off when you’re a farmer—sometimes the wedding reception just gets followed by a midnight trip to the barn!

From celebrating a new marriage to celebrating a new life… it was a pretty special night.

Got the barley harvested today. Barley is pretty drought resilient, it turned out better than expected.

Farming isn’t always the happy pictures, new babies, and good days. Sometimes farming is loss, heartbreak, and having to accept things that are completely out of your control. 💔

Last night, something got into our milkhouse where we had our baby chicks. We had 40 meat birds and 12 new laying hens, and unfortunately, we lost every single one of them.

As of right now, this means we will not have meat chickens available for sale this year, unless we are able to place a fall order.

This is one of the hardest parts of farming. We put time, money, and care into raising these little birds, and it’s never easy to lose them—especially when you’re not expecting it.

Stormy and Darby are taking the news especially hard. 💔 Farming teaches a lot of lessons, but some are much harder than others.

We’re sharing this side of farming too, because it’s not always sunshine and new babies. Sometimes it’s loss, disappointment, and picking yourself back up to try again.

Glad the tornadoes missed us but sure could’ve used the rain.

Last summer we bought a round baler that was a project. After tinkering on it over winter and this spring, we finally got it going. We used it last week and it worked awesome. It almost felt like cheating after doing so many small squares.

Almost half way through our first year of rotational grazing. The cows are definitely enjoying it!
