This spring brought a tough setback for our vineyard — the most significant freeze damage we’ve seen since the 2020 frost.

On the morning of April 21st, temperatures dropped to 29°F after an early bud break across the vineyard. Unfortunately, that freeze caused major damage to this year’s crop in just a few hours.

Farming is never predictable, but it’s still difficult to see the impact after months of work in the vineyard. While we’re hopeful there will be some secondary growth, this will likely have a noticeable effect on our harvest and future wine production.

A lot of vineyards across Virginia were affected by this freeze, and it’s a reminder of how dependent farming is on the weather each season.

We’re continuing to move forward and care for the vines the best we can, and we’re grateful for everyone who continues to support local wineries and agriculture. Every visit, bottle purchase, and recommendation truly helps small wineries like ours more than people realize.
