Several people have been asking when our sweet corn will be ready? It's getting close!! We may have some this weekend, but really won't be into an abundant supply of sweet corn till the following week. Unfortunately, our heavier soils don't warm up as quickly as some of the sandier soils on the ridges in the spring. Though we were able to plant early a lot of the plantings are going to end up ripening together.

The pumpkin crop is coming along. This heat along with the nitrogen we applied has really made them come along. The amount of rain we've had this year has really stressed the plants but they're starting to come out of it. The video is taken by the specialty pumpkins and they are a bit more susceptible to the amount of moisture we've had. The rolled down rye really holds the moisture in the ground, even after this dry period you can make a mud ball.

This morning we unloaded 8 loads or about 1200 bales in a little over 2 1/2 hrs. That was hustling with six guys! Though we have the accumulator we still need to use our wagons and unload by hand because we only have so much flat barn space to put the stacks.

We made some really nice 2nd cut last week just before the rain came through. We've been knocking a bunch more down for this week. Carl was busy today side dressing the pumpkins with nitrogen before they start vining out. They really grew in the hot weather we had last week.

Yesterday we spent the better part of the day getting the last of the straw and the first field of second cut dried out....

Yesterday we spent the better part of the day getting the last of the straw and the first field of second cut dried out. We hope to get the straw up today and get the hay baled before the next rain.
We have plenty of great produce, fruits, meats, honey and maple products at our farm market. Come out and see us!
