Approximately over 60% of the honey bee population died off this past winter because it was a harsh winter. Unfortunately, we alsonlist out hives over the winter.
We bought more hives amd sprayed a scent into two hives to attract swarms.
We have caught a swarm. There are orientation flights going in and bees ate going back inside with their pollen pockets full.
We are picking up some nucs tomorrow.
It's going to be a great season!

Well, we now know the culprit of the duck and chicken bandit. Not a racoon.
Our next door neighbor sent us a pic of chicken carnage in his front yard.
He could not get in since Mr. Crawford engineered a way to block the bandits.
Now, to set up live traps.

We lost 1 duck and 3 chickens this week by something pulling them through the fence. Most likely a racoon.
Mr. Crawford screwed some left over metal roofing on the fence to block the predators.
He also put two trail cams to see what is visiting.

We started by manually extracting 5 frames.

We have been busy at the farmstead running 3 different LLCs plus our W2s, but our bees have been busier.
This is the moment we have been waiting for!
We are harvesting some honey today! This is our first time as new beekeepers.
I can't wait to jar them up and make some beeswax body butter.
