I'm so excited to announce that my book, Microgreens and Shoots, is available for prebuy. Check the link in the bio and below! This is one of the few market farming books focusing on vegetables written by a woman, and the first bonafide book written on microgreens. Pre buy orders mean the world to me and are an important way to get my book on the charts.
My greatest intention with this book is to support beginning and established farmers with detailed "how-to" instructions for growing microgreens and shoots as a profitable crop enterprise on their diversified farms. Microgreens bring in consistent cash flow year round on my farm. They have truly become a backbone crop that allowed us to grow and keep our employees on year round.
To be perfectly honest, I made fun of microgreens when we started growing them, labeling them "rich people food," and I swore I would only grow them to gain entry into competitive markets in Upstate New York. Oh, how we eat our judgemental and critical words! I started to change my mind when my picky nephews started chowing on sunflower shoots and I started to feel incredible rushes of energy after eating an ounce or two of microgreens in one sitting. Then, when I had loyal customers showing up to market each week to buy my microgreens, I realized there was more to microgreens than I first thought.
Now, my farm brings in an average of $1300 a week in microgreen sales from just 100 square feet of space in our propagation greenhouse.
If you've ever considered adding microgreens and shoots as an enterprise on your farm, this book will show you all the ins and outs, from seed selection, trays and soil, harvesting and marketing, troubleshooting disease and pest issues, and handling leftovers.
If you are a home gardener interested in learning how to grow microgreens, this book will also be applicable to you! Microgreens are the perfect way to get a start gardening or farming even if you live in an apartment and have no land access.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share some detailed knowledge on a crop that has been an important part of my farm thriving!
