As the pineapple season is starting to peak, mama bear and papa bear are getting ready for in Italy next week 🍍🧸

The season is when both our farmer and consumer need us most, and when we are most active. The UN FAO estimates that more than 40% of the post-harvest and farmer income losses in 🇱🇰 happens during the season because of poor storage capacities and large price drops.

This is also the time when this sweet and tangy, GI-pending pineapple variety is most delicious 🤤

🎉In 2025, Nootz was selected as part of the first-ever cohort of the CIRCULAR Programme, a flagship European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives-funded initiative, implemented by Expertise France, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Sri Lanka).

🍍This programme was designed for companies like ours directly addressing the post-harvest problem in Sri Lanka, estimated at above 30% per annum by the UN FAO.

♻️ It was an endorsement of our circular model and Nootz’s potential to transform Sri Lanka's food economy, one smoothie at a time.

This weekend nearly crushed us. After getting ready for with an ultimate jab and hook - a larger packaging size and a premium corner booth, we were told that our flights via Qatar were cancelled because of the war.

When looking for last minute alternatives, the usual routes via the Asean and Far East options were booked out. Lo and behold, after paying 3x the original ticket price and flying for 2 days with multiple layovers, we made it just in the nick of time.

Why are we putting ourselves through this? For far too long our community's terroir, craftsmanship, and innovative spirit have been commodotised. Despite being outsiders to the coconut trade, we took on a life long ambition to change the status quo. And what better way to do it than our 3 ingredient, organic coconut smoothies from our regenerative farms. With a novel combination of steps that avoid unhealthy concentrates, stabilisers, and mono crop farming, we are going head on against the unprecedent non-communicable diseases and degrading farming ecosystems.
