Check this out for updates to the homestead and mortgage exemption!
House Bill 1260 enacted legislation eliminating the Mortgage Deduction beginning with the 2023 pay 2024 tax year.
The mortgage deduction is still in place for the 2021 pay 2022 year. When the 2022 pay 2023 taxes are determined, there will no longer be a mortgage deduction; instead, the homestead deduction has been increased from $45,000 to $48,000. The DLGF should be providing a new exemption form (the goldenrod form) soon.
You will want to confirm with your local auditor and assessor, but this should mean there is no need to file a mortgage exemption for the rest of this year since it will not be used in 2023 to determine the taxes due and owing.
