🌟AFC Future Leader Spotlight: Meet Gracie Diffey, the new Manager at Tennessee Valley Cooperative - Elgin.

She developed a passion for agriculture at an early age while putting out hay and preparing broiler houses for baby chicks on her family's farm in Anderson, AL.

The 2024 graduate of Mississippi State University, with a degree in Agribusiness Management and a minor in Marketing, continues to build on her agricultural foundation every day.

💭"What I love most about agriculture is the people. It's an industry filled with hardworking individuals who are always willing to lend a helping hand and share their knowledge with others."

As an AFC Future Leader and manager, Gracie enjoys meeting producers from all walks of life, finding solutions to their challenges and expanding her knowledge.

The future of agriculture is in great hands, and we're excited to watch Gracie continue to grow alongside the farmers and communities she serves. 🌱

Help us congratulate Gracie on her new promotion in the comments! 👏

BUY LOCAL BEEF
There’s always so much back and forth you can’t ever tell what they’re trying to push the market one way or another one way to avoid that completely is to buy local beef
Buying local supports farm families in your area and takes all the guess work out of where your beef is coming from

USDA LOWERS 2026 AND 2027 BEEF-PRODUCTION FORECASTS, RAISES STEER-PRICE OUTLOOK

USDA’s latest Cattle & Beef Market Outlook lowered its beef-production forecasts for both 2026 and 2027.

USDA ERS says the reductions were driven mainly by a slower expected pace of fed-cattle slaughter.

The agency also raised its 2026 slaughter-steer price forecast to $251.10 per hundredweight, based on actual price data through June.

For 2027, USDA raised its slaughter-steer price forecast to $254.25 per hundredweight.

USDA also lowered its 2026 beef-import forecast by 50 million pounds, to 6.059 billion pounds.

WHY RANCHERS SHOULD CARE

USDA’s July outlook pairs lower beef-production forecasts with higher slaughter-steer price forecasts for 2026 and 2027.

But these are forecasts—not guarantees.

Actual cattle prices can move above or below USDA projections as slaughter pace, carcass weights, beef demand, imports, exports, feed costs, weather, and cattle supplies change.

Which part of USDA’s outlook matters most to your operation: beef production, steer prices, or imports?

USDA Economic Research Service, July 2026 Cattle & Beef Market Outlook.

2026 beef-import forecast lowered by 50 million pounds to 6.059 billion pounds.
