We had a wonderful time this weekend at the Sunflower Doe Down Dairy Goat Show in Salina!

This was our third year attending, and it's always an incredibly fun & educational opportunity for us! A huge thank you to the Varners for putting together another fantastic event. Running two rings with different judges is no small task, and everything was organized, welcoming, and enjoyable from start to finish.

As for our girls:

Nynaeve, 3rd freshener:
2nd and 3rd LaMancha 4 years & under 5. I was also very excited that both judges mentioned her incredible udder capacity & noted she must be an outstanding producer (20.2 # peak this year)

Egwene, 1st freshener:
1st and 4th in LaMancha 2 years & under 3

Verin, 1st freshener:
didn't place, but gained valuable ring experience and was beautifully shown by Amy Schweizer while I was showing Egwene. Verin still has a lot of maturing to do yet and we are excited to see how she fills out and her udder matures later into this 1st lactation. We were very proud of how well behaved she was with such limited ring experience.

We're proud of all three girls and grateful for a fun weekend spent with fellow goat friends. One of the best parts of the show was catching up with Egwene & Moiraine’s breeder, Tule Creek Farms - Lee & Carey Bartram. It was exciting to watch Carey’s success in both rings today. She bred all of the top 4 does selected in Egwene's class in both rings and she also won Best of Breed LaMancha in both rings!!Congratulations, Carey! And congrats to our friend, Samantha @ Bluestem Acres, for winning Reserve Nubian! Thank you again to everyone who helped make the show such a success! We’re already looking forward to next year!

Our very first Subscribers Only Dog Treat Boxes went out this month & I had so much fun creating these Alice in Wonderland Tea Party themed treats!

Each monthly box is handmade in small batches with fresh, limited ingredients and includes:

• Large iced cookie personalized with your dog’s name
• Doggy donut
• 2 icing-stuffed cookies
• Small & Mini themed peanut butter cookies
• Dehydrated meat
• Dog-safe candies or dehydrated fruits/veggies

We use freshly milked goat milk, freshly laid quail eggs, & home raised meat sources from our own farm because we believe dogs deserve the healthiest, freshest treats possible.

Monthly subscription boxes are $15 with additional boxes available for $14 each. Add-on personalized cookies are also available for $4.

You can opt out of any monthly box or discontinue your subscription with a 1 month notice.

Boxes can be picked up at our farm in Andover (just E of Wichita), delivered to select areas, or shipped within the USA.

I run every aspect of our small hobby farm myself with help from my husband when he’s not working his full-time job. Every purchase helps pay for feed and animal care for the animals here on our farm.

If your dog has allergies or dietary restrictions, please message us for an ingredient list & alternative options when available.

RARE ERMINE AND CHOCOLATE/MAUVE AMERAUCANA HATCHING EGGS!!!

We’re super excited to finally announce these rare color Ameraucana hatching eggs to our FB followers first! The last 2 hatch rates were 99% and 100% here in our own incubators, but please remember that we do not guarantee hatch rates due to differences of incubators, handling, & many other variables that can interfere with viability. Our farm is in Andover, KS just E of Wichita, we aren’t shipping these at this time.

WHAT IS A DAIRY GOAT SHOW?

Dairy goat judging isn’t a “beauty pageant” about goat colors, patterns, or cuteness. It’s about function and evaluating traits that, when bred, improve the breed as a whole. Mammary system, structure, and longevity traits all determine how well a doe will perform and stay sound over her lifetime.

I had a few people ask about dairy goat shows and thought it would be educational to share the judge’s commentary when choosing placements. Judges share this commentary for each individual goat in each class at every event. This is one of the aspects I wish AKC & breed clubs would adopt in the dog conformation ring because of how much it elevates the education of the handlers and spectators involved in the breed!

This is me handling Bright Marvel Farm Nynaeve in the LaMancha Senior Doe 4 to under 5 class at the Heart of Oklahoma Show this weekend. I edited this clip only to include commentary regarding Nynaeve in comparison to 1st & 3rd place. The doe that won this class went on to win BOB.
