As we head into farmers market season, not only do I recommend visiting more than one but also supporting all of the local farms and small businesses that you can!

Ten out of ten recommend. As a farmers market manager, I’m obsessed. Not just during market season but all year round. Knowing the people that grow your veggies and make your food not only ensure quality but suppers your community and their families.

Maybe I’m posting this for myself, but just in case someone else needs this…. Keep showing up. Keep doing what you’re doing. People are watching even if it doesn’t feel like it.

You’ve heard me harp on newsletters before, and I’m going to keep doing it because they are one of the BEST tools small businesses have. Social media algorithms change constantly, but newsletters allow you to connect directly with your audience in a much more intentional way.

And no, your newsletter doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to sound like YOU.
If newsletters feel overwhelming, don’t panic. I absolutely love helping businesses create branded, approachable newsletters that actually connect with customers.

It’s getting to be that time of year where the to-do list is longer than the hours in the day. Market season is about to be in FULL swing, which means juggling:

• Social media
• Website updates
• Newsletters
• Product making
• Farmers markets
• Staffing
• Client work
• Trying to squeeze in a beach day
• And approximately 700 other things

So how do small business owners have time for everything?

WE DON’T. AndI wouldn’t trade it for the world.

There’s something really beautiful about building something that matters to you, even when it’s chaotic, exhausting, and requires approximately 15 iced coffees to survive.

And if your own to-do list is starting to spiral this summer, shoot me a message. I’d love to help lighten the load.

Let’s normalize talking about pricing. One of the most common questions I get from small food businesses is: “Do you think my prices are too high?”

Most of the time… they’re too low.

Pricing is one of the hardest emotional hurdles for entrepreneurs because we care deeply about our customers. But if your pricing doesn’t support your business in the long term, eventually there won’t BE a business.

Remember:You are not charging for ingredients alone. You’re charging for labor, skill, experience, overhead, creativity, time, and sustainability.

Small businesses deserve to survive too.

In case you didn’t get the VIP invite… yesterday was SO much fun!!

By now, you’ve probably seen that I had the pleasure of working with Kristen, owner of From Skratch Custom Cookies, to design not only a beautiful new website, but also a branded newsletter series (have you signed up yet?!).

So naturally, it was incredibly exciting to attend her ribbon-cutting ceremony at School Street Foods, celebrating 3 years in business!! Moments like these are HUGE for small business owners, and I’m so thrilled that Kristen’s business journey is proving to be just as sweet as her cookies (and her).

The afternoon was filled with cookies, smiles, scissors, celebration, and so much community support, exactly the kind of thing that reminds me why I love working with small businesses so much.

Let’s talk about something we don’t normally touch on: the discomfort and guilt of promoting your small business while so many people are struggling day to day.

It’s true. And for those who aren’t struggling right now, I celebrate you. But for those who are… it’s tough out there, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t right there with you.

From rising costs of living and inflation to the pay gap getting wider every day… small business owners feel it too. They see it. Their costs continue to rise while they feel guilty raising their prices, so their margins shrink while they’re still trying to take care of themselves and their families. Some have a partner to lean on. Some don’t.

I feel the guilt every day. I wish I could give my services away for free just to help fellow small business owners survive and grow. But alas, that’s not the world we live in.

So whether you’re a customer or a small business owner, give yourself some grace. We are all just trying to survive, and we’re in this together.
